The Amityville 3-D review suggests poor quality native-3D.

There are plenty of ole school 3D movies with tons of depth. That's one reason everybody is so excited when they come out on BD. Are you referring to Brendan Frasers Journey To The Center of the Earth?

![]() As I recall, most 80's 3D WAS pretty fuzzy in the theaters, with or without the 3D. I'd just thought most of that was unsynchronized projection, but could've been just the cameras they had to film it with at the time. Usually, when I watch a former 80's-3D movie on 2D, I can tell it was in 3D from the soft, murky look to the PQ. So the review may have just been finding out the truth the hard way. Until we get Jaws 3-D or F13 for comparison, we'll never know. |

completely agree. Journey to the Center of the Earth is far from vintage or classic. It's a current generation film. Most old 3D films have an excellent amount of depth - far better than many of today's films.

Just finished watching this late last night (on the projector). Been a long time since I have seen this and I dont believe I ever did watch it in 3D. That being said...I rather thought the 3D was pretty good. Depth, dimension, and foreground placement were pretty strong, plentiful, and consistent. I enjoyed the ''pop out at you'' scenes as well. Detail I thought was decent in parts..other parts..meh. But it wasn't so bad that it distracted me from enjoying watching it.
Did I see some ghosting? Yes I did. Most of it was in the very first scene and it involved a lamp, a glowing ball, a lighter, and the investigative woman's head. When you saw these things appear on screen.....yeah... you could definitely see the ghosting going on. But they were not heavily used in the scenes and were not overly distracting enough not to enjoy it. I have learned to ignore it or look beyond scenes with ghosting...but that's just me. Another very brief glimpse of ghosting (later in the movie) involved a flashlight pop out scene in one scene. Again, I thought the 3D presentation was very enjoyable and not as bad as I had read from other sites and viewers. I was watching it on a 124'' image about 8' away so I understand we all have different displays and thus different reactions and experiences viewing this flick (especially regarding ghosting). Definitely glad I picked it up..this will get repeated viewings on or around Halloween each year. Would love to see more 80's 3D flicks get a 3D blu release. |
