funny thing.... the ratings given here on this thread appear about 80% positive and yet about 80% of the posts seem negative...

saw it on Friday. 3D didn't impress me but I liked the movie. Thought the score was lacking and something is missing from the movie - didn't get the same feeling about future movies like I did with Batman after I saw Batman Begins. I think they needed to add about 10% Donner to it and by that I mean Brando got to give the "They are a good people, they wish to be..." speech where Crowe gives the "They will stumble..." speech - not quite as epic feeling as in Donner's film. I think that sense of wonder was missing and it shows quickly. But I can't say I hated the film or anything and I am sure the next one will be better. Did love all the little references to the Superman lore that people will probably miss
[Show spoiler] like him actually becoming Superman in Canada(finding the ship and such) since he was created by a Canadian and him being called Joe plus the LexCorp and Wayne Industries logos

9.94% gave it a bad rating

90.06% gave it a good rating (3 stars isn't a bad score)

it may seem like their is a lot of negative post, and that's because its the same few people coming back over and over again to make their point clear. they are fighting this to the death and forgotten about what's happening in real life because the cyber life has taken over

What does that mean?
He only made Superman the movie for theatres and his cut of Superman 2 for home video in over 30 years, that's hardly a lot is. Besides his movie was the bench mark for all other superhero/ comic book movies.

What a ridiculous thing to say.

I agree with you here. Very stupid plot device. Hell the whole story was very complicated and stupid. When you are using more Star Trek mumbo jumbo then Star Trek you know you have a problem!
So saying they were 'terraforming' the planet is mumbo jumbo?

No.

1)
[Show spoiler]Yes, the pod that Clark was sent was to create a new Phantom Zone since the other one was tied into Krypton's planet somehow, which was why they were able to escape after Kryton exploded. The tech btw the world in metropolis was similar to the device used to send Zod and Co. to the Phantom Zone. So the pod wasable to create a new phantom zone.

Seriously?
The movie said that the military was trying to track him, without success----it didn't say they couldn't figure out who he was.

There it is folks. Even as a non-hardcore fan I have a sense of appreciation that I can trade a few of my bucks to see these kinds of movies.

They just sweep everything under the rug like it was a video game and end the story. So much for being more "realistic."
It happens in the comics and in animated films why not this one? Who says it might not be addressed in the sequel.

The big gooey love letter to Donner's movies were a huge contributor to the suck that was Superman Returns. A stand alone movie that didn't try so hard to connect w/ S:TM may have fared much better.

but the movie did need more of a Donner touch. even Nolan's Batman movies had some humour to them and those are supposed to be dark movies. here I felt that they wanted to make a serious movie and no jokes allowed. Donner balanced it out a bit(remember it was made in the 1970's so things are going to look weird compared to now). plus the Superman theme - god this movie could use that theme. the score was pretty lame for the first superhero.

one thing I did like - and I know others will hate it - is that things were played out at somewhat real speed. nothing annoys me more in a movie when every fight has to play out in slow motion so you can see all the moves. these are supposed to be gods on Earth - you shouldn't be able to see every punch. although when the battle is done, Metropolis looks like swiss cheese.

I'm not bringing it up again. I'm restating my earlier points which have not been deleted:
