I can't believe they're not re-releasing it before Maleficent is in theaters. You'd think they'd do a movie cash type of deal like they did with Monsters, Inc. so they'd get more sales.

3D, 4K, 11.1 audio, with a diamond on the slip over the Steelbook that houses a digibook inside the case.

Pinocchio is the only one I care about getting a re-release. The Sleeping Beauty Platinum Edition can still be found for a decent price online. I bought mine a few months ago, and paid less than $15.

Kinda strange that some releases like Lilo and Stitch get the bare bones treatment, whereas Sleeping Beauty - which already had a great release, presumably gets an even greater release.

Disney is like God - works in mysterious ways.

...OHHHhhh! Yeah. Forgot about the cross-promotion.

I'm considering this one an anomaly, like Peter Pan being added to the DVD Platinum list to cross-promote the Tinker Bell movie.
Still, should put them on the right foot for starting the "Movies You Missed" reissue line.

Monsters Inc. isn't doing MovieCash this time--Seems to be an online-ticket deal, where you have to buy a specific showing at a specific theater.
Which means it's one more week till I can use mine.

O...kay...? I guess the strategy makes sense: Maleficent in theaters March, Maleficent on Blu-ray June, Sleeping Beauty on Blu-ray October. If that's the case, though, what's happening with Aladdin and 101 Dalmatians? Are they just going to be released as non-Diamonds next year (like the rest of the world's already gotten), or will they be the 2015 ones? If it's the former, does that mean Pinocchio's coming March 2015 and Snow White will kick start a new collection October that year?

I've already got the Platinum and am 100% satisfied with it. I can only see this release becoming a downgrade based on the way Disney's been handling its films on home video. I wouldn't be surprised to see them drop Cine Explore, the galleries, all the interactive features, and only try to squeeze the featurettes onto one disc (who knows what'll happen to the HD vintage materials). They'd have to come up with something amazing to get me to double-dip (like extensive live-action reference footage found in the vault or something). Even then, I'd still hold onto my old set for the inevitable dropped features.

As for cover art, I wouldn't be surprised to see them use the potential leaked art from the Platinum (the one in the middle of the lineup):

Which itself was inspired by the Deluxe Edition laserdisc:

They finally used Cinderella's leaked Platinum art of her holding the slipper when doing the Diamond Edition, so it seems likely they'll go a similar route with Sleeping Beauty, especially to visually tie it in with Maleficent.

They changed it already? Because I bought the re-issue of Monsters, Inc. on release day, went home & entered the code online & printed out the free movie ticket to see Monsters University on June 21st or until July 31st.

Maybe... 3 Diamonds in a year?

I can see Disney possible giving Sleeping Beauty a 3D Conversion, but the film already was given a beautiful 4K restoration for the Platinum Edition Blu-Ray and the picture & sound quality is already damn perfect. I really don't know how they can improve upon that for a re-release.

No, they've pretty much come out and said they're done with 3D conversions for their older films. Little Mermaid was the last one. (Outside of Pixar films... And I don't even know if we'll ever see them released, since Up and Monsters Inc tanked.)

I would agree with this kind of thinking.

On a similar note, I could see them changing their minds if Maleficent bombs and Disney sees no value in further promotion.

They don't have to sweeten the pot, they've got a lot of recent folk and dumb folk from six years ago by the balls, and can sell them the new frills like Digital Copy.
(Except for the even dumber folk who actually DID try to get a $75 copy on eBay after it was too late.)

Question is, they've still got two left to go on the vintage Platinum list: Jungle Book and 101D, and Aladdin is all but assumed for Spring '14. Are they going to intersperse the "catchup" titles with the new ones to keep interest, and '15 will be Jungle Book and Pinocchio?
Count me in the "recent folk" (not the dumb folk!). We own the platinum edition as a family, but I'm moving out so a Diamond will be on my list.

This is weird. So we have TLM (Fall '13), Jungle (Spring '14), SB (Fall '14). So then that leaves two spots. I say 101D Spring '15 and Pinocchio Fall '15 with a new line starting Spring '16. Aladdin gets a non diamond release with the original released Spring '14 and the sequels as a double pack fall '14. Edit: Wait that leaves three spots. So see below!!! 14 total, correct? So with 8 already out, 2 confirmed, 1 limbo, that leaves 3.

But I go back to this: http://www.dvdizzy.com/diamondcollec...ease-0910.html.

I still say we end up with Fantasia as the final Diamond, so Spring '16, and then Snow White back in the fall. Idk though.

I really like that cover art. So tilt the title sideways with sleeping emphasized...hmm, hmm.

I know Europe got that, but I just don't see it.

Now with it being fairly close, I'm debating if I still want a Platinum. I kind of do - just for the good bonus features. And the BD set without the DVD can be had for $15.

I wasn't talking about SB's status as a Diamond, but the timing of the release.

All this talk only emphasizes the fact the the Diamond line is subject to change without notice and no release is gauranteed until it arrives in stores.

Wait, they pushed the Maleficient release.

Look,

Quote:
Scheduled for release in July 2014, Maleficent is the untold story of Disney's most beloved villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty. The film reveals the events that hardened Maleficent's heart and drove her to curse baby Aurora.
And, they're discussing supporting the SB release, which makes it sound like they'll make it pretty impressive (Similar to BatB).

Quote:
In fall 2014, a few months after the theatrical release of Maleficent, Walt Disney Studios will open its prestigious vault for the release of Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition on Blu-ray. DCP will support the re-release of this timeless classic with a wide product assortment, which will also be supported through television promotions, short form content, marketing, PR and social media.

Not a big fan if this movie but since I just recently started buying Disney titles, it'll be nice to get it on BD without paying the vaulted price!

If it gets a lenticular slip, I'd probably buy it again. I'm dumb like that.
