Might be worth submitting that price to Amazon for anyone that is keeping their pre-orders.

It is slighter when you're not a Howl's fan and have seen ALL the movies , in which case Kiki's Delivery Service is still the 100% perfectly balanced Aladdin of Studio Ghibli.
Totoro was good, but we can be thankful that Hayao didn't make the story AS leisurely as he originally wanted to.
Kiki's Delivery Service is good but it's the only Miyazaki movie that I kinda dislike. The part where
[Show spoiler]she loses the toy cat and then arrives to the delivery late.. It stresses me out! I've even skipped that part the last few times I've seen it.

I got the Blu-Ray of Totoro today and pulled out my 2006 two-disc DVD to see if anything was left out. The DVD has the opening and closing animation without credits and that's all that's missing on the Blu-Ray. The credits on the B;u-Ray are not that intrusive so there's no reason for me to keep the DVD.

We did a review for both the My Neighbor Totoro and Howl's Moving Castle blu-rays. Hope you all enjoy!

My Neighbor Totoro and Howl's Moving Castle Blu-ray Review - YouTube
Thanks for sharing. I hope after shooting the front yard scene you immediately went back and closed your mail box though. Things like that drive me nuts in movies. When people just leave doors and stuff open and walk away.

When it goes to the next scene I pretend that in between the cuts, the character closed the door or turned off something they're supposed to. Even if they're in a life theatening situation and it makes complete sense that they would forget to do so.

Me: I don't care that he's still in the house and wants to kill you, b****! Go back in, close and lock your back door! THIS IS HOW HE GOT IN, IN THE FIRST PLACE!!

Me: I don't care that someone just kidnapped your baby, ran out the door and you still have a very good chance of catching them child back. There is no reason you can't quickly finish putting those plates away.

... Yes, I know I have issues with closure.
Funnily enough I love movies with ambiguous storylines and nicely executed open ended stories. They don't bother me at all. Some things are unforgiveable though. Like doors and hatches being left open, appliances being left on, lights being left on and tasks not being completed

(Uh, okay, why is the character dressed like somebody from an 80's British music-video?)

ordered this from Amazon yesterday, very excited to get it tomorrow. Amazingly, despite seeing most Ghibli titles, this is not one of them, so a debut spin at home on blu ray will be pretty fantastic.

From the few scenes that I've seen from the newly Disney dubbed version, I can't stand it. Original only for me. Guess I'll stick with my sister's old dvd.

I've never seen the original dub, but I keep hearing that it's pretty decent. I just watch the subtitle version anyway, so it wouldn't make any difference to me on that end.

The Disney ones are quite nice IMO, even the celebrity voices are well chosen and appropriate. Only one I think is particularly poor is Arietty. The Totoro Streamline dub is too screechy for me, but that is the one that some people are used to. I prefer the Disney.

I did flip back and forth quite a bit on Howl's. I thought that Billy Crystal was good as Calcifer and same thing with Christian Bale as Howl.

You do realize it has the original Japanese track with subtitles on the disc as well right?

Too bad--Phil Hartman is almost a better Jiji in Kiki's Delivery Service than the original (or tied at least), villain-for-hire Mark Hamill makes a perfectly oily Mousska in Castle in the sky, and yes, I LIKE hearing Meg from Disney's "Hercules" as the older big-sister bathhouse girl in Spirited Away, the actress just fits those roles.

The Fannings would be more of an average Disney dub, which is to say not bad at all, just toeing the line. I remember when that was the GOOD standard of an anime dub, especially when Streamline was about.

Eh, it just doesn't gel right for me. I've seen snippets of the dubs and it does next to nothing for me. It just doesn't occur to me that there's another option when sitting down to a Ghibli film. I remember attending a Ghibli retrospective a number of months back, and immediately being struck by the thought that Spirited Away might be dubbed. Luckily, that wasn't the case.

I'm not going to count Earthsea Kiki's Delivery Service is classic an absolutely one of my favorites. Which in this case is similar to trying to pick a Pixar favorite. Depends on my mood.
Yes, Kiki's Delivery Service is incredible and probably my favorite Ghibli film. Does not hurt that I have two daughters in the house and have seen it at least 30 times.

Default My Neighbor Totoro BD Audio

The spec says its in DTS HD Master but my receiver shows pro logic ii on the unit display. Check the bd player and it says the hd master track is selected. Am I missing something?

It's 2.0 and your receiver is likely set to matrix it out using Pro-Logic. That's my guess anyway.

Might be a dumb question. But if it is a 2.0 dts hd master mix then it will always default to pro logic because its only using the front speakers?
