Great scenes ruined by bad music?

I was watching Gangs Of New York recently and realized just how terrible the music is in the opening battle scene. Yeah, it has other problems (poor slow motion, etc.), but that music really ruins that scene.

Anyone have any others?

not really a great scene but what immeidately comes to mind is that dreadful "fingers going down chalkboard" song that starts blaring at the end of Ridley Scott's LEGEND....

Neither of these movies is ruined by the music - not even close - but every time I see them I'm aware the the score isn't as good as the films:


Witness. Great film -- one of my all-time favorites. But the score is so synth-heavy and synthetic sounding that it always bothers me. I always thought that for the Amish scenes, a simple score performed on acoustic and wind instruments would be far more fitting

Planes, Trains & Automobiles. The 80's left their mark heavily on this one. Very electronic with irritating electronic drums over everything. Fun movie, but except for a few well-chosen tunes (Back In Baby's Arms is a great bit!) tghe score is dated and annoying.

I thought that the entire movie of Public Enemies would have been EPIC if it wasn't for the horrible score/"lack of score" duing almost EVERY scene in the movie. Such potential with that film.

I love that entire sequence! But to each their own!

I really thought the Pearl Jam song in Man of Steel was extremely out of place, and almost took me out of the film.

I also don't like it when the main theme changes from film to film in a series. Such as it did with the X-Men films, and the Iron Man films. As soon as Iron Man 2 started and Ramin Djawadi's original theme from Iron Man wasn't playing, the film automatically went down a notch.

I wouldn't call it bad music, but the scene when Thorin is walking down the tree trunk in The Hobbit has the same music as the Witch King of Angmar for the LOTR films. Takes me out of the scene every time.

Not grearmt, but I liked the Karate Kid remake except for the inclusion of some of the top-20 hits.

The entire soundtrack to Scarface. It ruins the movie for me.

I find the entire score of The Untouchables to be so over-the-top and intrusive. Ruins an otherwise good movie for me.

Completely agree. Absolutely no need in using that music for that scene. It's not just for the Witch King, it gets uses with the Nazgul often, most notably at Weathertop and when they are sent out for the first time

I always thought the last song over the credits to TEEN WOLF was awful! It sticks out every time I watch it. It's such a downer, when the movie had such a happy ending.

LADYHAWK's whole soundtrack was synthesizer if I remember correctly. Terrible, just terrible. Should of used an orchestra.

I love the ending to First Blood, but then that cheesy 80's rock song starts as the credits roll...

Thats one i have been meaning to revisit. I do remember it being a very generic score, though.

When the Beatles started playing during Once Upon a Time in America, it took me right out of it. Still like the film though .

how dare you. that is the best part of that movie.
Peter Gabriels instrumental version of Signal to Noise is my favorite part of that excellent movie.


I liked the new Great Gatsby film but the fergie song was awful and anytime they played anything by the awful Lana Del Ray and that droning whiny awfully written song ruined the film for me whenever it appeared.

Agreed. Amazing song, but that cover of the song doesn't fit the film at all. It was definitely unwanted, especially when you have Ennio Morricone scoring your film.

But a film with a bad music choice, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, raindrops keep falling on my head. That song just took me straight out of the film, such an awful choice of music.

I love it. The eighties excess of Scarface is part of the film's appeal for me.
