Default Spare change anyone? 22 May

May 22
9 Releases!!!

Apocolypto
MI 1
MI 2
POTC 1
POTC 2
Letters from Iwo Jima
Flags of Our Fathers
Closer
Freedom Writers

I count them six titles for 22 May that I am definatly going to buy.
Apocolypto, POTC 1 and 2, Letters from Iwo Jima, Flags of Our Fathers, and Closer are must-buys for me.

Need I mention, Keira and Natalie in Hi-def glory. Natalie Portman as a stripper! Clive Owen telling Natalie to spread them. Lucky geezer got to have both of them (reference: King Aurthur and Closer). I am choking on my own drool as I type.

It's going to be an expensive week for sure. I already have both POTC's on pre-order, but will be adding Flags/Letters, Closer, and Apocalypto for sure. I'll probably buy Rio Bravo and the Cowboys too, but am hoping to see reviews first on the PQ. Luckily I bought the Mission Impossible set awhile back or I might need to take out a loan for the movie fund

I thought POTC 1 was pretty good, but I never bought it on DVD. I do really want to see the PQ of the Caribbean after seeing The Bahamas on CR. Since I'm getting the 1st, might as well get #2.

Blurayforever143, I thought Freedom Writers seemed like a pretty warmed-over story (Teacher inspires inner-city youngsters who the world doesn't give a chance to succeed, etc.).

As for Flags, I really liked it, but it's not a regular war movie. It's about the two flags of Iwo Jima, and of the men who raised the second one (the one in the picture we all know). Of those men, only 3 made it off the island, and it follows their story as they go on a publicity tour to solicit people to buy war bonds. While the film goes on, they have flashbacks telling how the other men died and the actions of those 3 survivors after the flag raising. The battle lasted 35 days after the flags went up. I'm buying this and blind-buying Letters from Iwo Jima.

As an aside, I was on vacation in the Bahamas scuba diving when they were filming the POTC sequels. Some of the "locals" (they weren't naturalized but live there year-round) were used as extras. Got to see some cool pics and occasionally saw The Black Pearl sailing off in the distance. I can't wait to see them and see if I can make out the people I know with all their get-up on.
