Amen to that! There was some woeful cropping going on back in the day (and still occasionally does).

I remember one of the worst being Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Kirk, Spock and Gillian are in her truck talking. In 2.39:1 you can see all three. In 4:3 it pans and scans because only two people fit in the frame at a time. I remember a special feature on the original DVD release where Leonard Nimoy specifically talked about this. It was a perfect example and probably the single most convincing thing to show one of those "black bar" complainers. If they didn't change their tune after that they never would.

I tend to watch things at random when flicking through channels at night, if I see a good movie being played and there is nothing else to watch or do I'll happily watch it regardless of the picture/sound/commercial advertisements. Generally however I don't specifically plan it ahead of time especially for watching films, that's reserved for DVD and Blu which I seek to rent out or buy.

Thanks mate, that makes sense. Stupid and ignorant of 7mate to run a ancient 4:3 broadcast master that was presented in pan & scan on a HD channel.

Yeah, silly but they still seem to do it from time to time. Thankfully most are at least 1.78:1 now. Doesn't really matter so much to me as I haven't watched any TV shows or movies on TV in years. I only watch the occasional sport and that's it.

Hey just wondering if any of guys managed to get on down to Supanova in Sydney over the weekend? Carrie Fisher & David Hasselhoff were the major draws down there this year, who are also coming to Perth for next weekend.

Let us know if you did go, and how it went?

Just bought a Xbox 360 + 60gb HDD, headset, Halo Reach and The Orange Box for $105nz off a friend who is moving cities. Couldn't really turn it down, wonder what I will with an xbox since it can't play blu-rays

Went to watch a STTNG episode thru my pc system, only to hear really bad grinding noises coming from my BD drive, even pulled the disc out to check it and clean it, only to have it do the same thing.

It wasn't until I pulled it out the second time I noticed disc 1 had stuck somehow to disc 4

In future must remember to only put 1 disc in at a time

It's official.. Falling Skies is improving with each season. I'm glad I managed to stick with it throughout that dreadful first season.

I didn't mind the first season but it was what I would call the best season...
I'm also glad I stuck with it, I usually watch the first season of a show to see if ii continue and now I can wait until Monday to watch it.

I really wish the "limited edition" Blu-Ray line up with covers that look like comic book prints were steelbooks instead of slip covers. I like slips but steels are so much better plus I know for a fact that this very same series of releases comes in steelbooks internationally overseas. Its a shame the Australian versions aren't. Anyone feel the same way?

Yeah I'm still tossing up whether to get the US steels.

I'd go for the import if I had a region-free Blu-Ray player. Unfortunately I don't.

They're Universal. Most releases of theirs have been region free and all the Comic Book SteelBooks films are region free so there's no problem importing and playing on any Australian player.

So by that token, would the steelbook "limited edition" version of Scarface which comes with collector cards and includes the DVD of the 1932 edition of Scarface be region-free as well? Because from the listings I've seen on eBay some sellers are in fact saying its region-free but some others are saying its region locked.

For some example - here is one I have my eye on but the listing claims is region locked - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SCARFACE-...item58a1922875

It's region free. Pay no attention to what eBay or Amazon listings say as they are frequently incorrect. The database here often has the info you need.
