This Superman is not idealized. I know some people are use to and want a Superman that has all the answers, makes all the right choices, and doesnt allow a single civilian to get hurt. For every second Zod lives further theres more damage to the city and more civilian casualties. In a less realistic, idealized world Superman lures Zod to the Fortress of Solitude and steals his powers, crushes his hand, and throws him into a bottomless pit. It comes down to this: Sometimes the villain has to die. Even in Disney family movies like Beauty and the Beast the villain dies. Zod's death and Supermans reaction has way more weight then the happy go lucky ending of Superman II. But thats just it. One of the reviewers said they prefer thier comic book movies "light". Man of Steel dealt with heavy issues without looking away |

I think that's an interesting point of view, that Superman lost. However, from that point of view I think it's okay for Batman to lose, and Batman did lose. |

So my wife...
...who thinks the Superman concept, as a whole, is cheesy ...has never liked a Superman film to date saw Man of Steel, for the first time, earlier today in Colombia, with a couple of her cousins, and she loved it. She absolutely loved it. Hey, it's a good film. ![]() |

[Show spoiler] and you all know the rest of the story. Realistic guys - that's how this Superman was approached. A realistic story with a comic book visual presentation.

I fully expect them to do away with his secret identity in the sequel, way too hard in a contemporary setting to hide a personality like that behind a suit and a pair of glasses.

This movie isnt dark. The Dark Knight is dark. This is not dark. Some people just want their Superman to be a grown boyscout that saves cats from trees. Others prefer the Disney Marvel take on comic book movies. Why not just accept it as a different take on the character? I didnt prefer the spin Nolan put on Batman in Batman Begins, I thought Christain Bale wasnt an ideal choice for Bruce Wayne or Batman. I thought The Dark Knight was closer to a horror movie then a Super hero movie. But that never stopped me from enjoying the films for what they were. I accepted it as just a different take on the character. I'm actually happy there is a very strong group of people against this film. If everyone was drooling over it like the Dark Knight, I'd feel almost like another fanboy. That goes for critics too. A comic book film would never ever be up for any type of award because they see the genre as second class. Heath Ledger had to die to win an award. They held Best Picture away from the LOTR movies until the very end when they were forced their hand. I mean they gave A beautiful Mind best Picture over Fellowship. I really have nothing else to say. Last edited by bluearth; 07-02-2013 at 06:43 AM. |

Audience have their conception of an extraterrestrial based on Hollywood movies, which are basically fiction. In real life Aliens might be very similar to us, as in "Human"! Maybe a more spiritual race, but every extraterrestrial race doesn't need to look like those gray and pale beings with soulless eyes! I absolutely believe that there are other planets where life thrives like earth, and I don't believe all of them look that ghastly. There is this hypothesis that Gods were actually a superior alien race. Then when you connect this to the fact that God created Human beings "in his image", then it shows that Gods were Human beings as well, just from another star system. |

As long as Superman is kind of mysterious and not a public figure, it could still work. He just can never be photographed and Superman can never interact with anyone who Clark would also interact with. It's possible, you just lose certain possibilities, like Jimmy Olson being Superman's "pal".

I believe wholeheartedly that life has evolved on planets other than Earth. Whether they look like us or not, who's to say? But just because Hollywood says all alien life are reptilian creatures with big eyes and slick skin, doesn't mean that's the case. We evolved into human beings here on Earth, there is no reason to discount the chance that other creatures on other planets have evolved to a similar form. Maybe there are lifeforms out there that have evolved far past the point we currently are, maybe not. The only fact here, is that we don't really know, so complaining about the way alien lifeforms look in film doesn't really work, because they could be spot on just as well as they could be terribly wrong. In the end, though, it's a science-fiction movie, so there really isn't need to complain about having to suspend your belief. |
