There was an article (which I can't remember the link too) where they compared a 5400rpm drive and a 7500rpm drive. They said there was minimal difference in access times between 5400 and 7500 and a 4mb cache vs an 8MB but that the 7500 rpm HD "may" increase heat due to is spinning faster. We won't know if there are any damaging effects until people have had 7500rpm drives in their PS3's for a while.
