*Worse quality than previous release:
-Ghostbusters (black crush, DNR boost)
-Angels & Demons (black crush, odd red tint added)
Ghostbusters comes from a new 4K scan where as the previous release was a contrast boosted older 2K scan. It wasn't as bad as people are saying but the new release is better. Angels & Demons also looks much better now going from screencaps and Battle: Los Angeles is actuelly surprisingly worse. All the others I agree with.

I'm waiting for someone to say, "But you haven't seen it in motion! Screencaps are worthless! My TV is better than yours! Sony is the best!"

You think the improved bitrate does nothing to enhance motion? WOW

Actually I was waiting for you to say that for the 300th time in this thread.

Add cue & picture. And Sony is not the best. That we can agree on.

And for the person that says Ghostbusters is worse than the old edition obviously hasn't seen them side by side.

There was a youtube video earlier in the thread showing them side by side & the difference is night day.

The blown out contrast on the earlier release has been taken care of finally.

Ghostbusters was using a remastered print. Of course it was going to look better. But I thought that most of the other disks weren't even remastered?

4k Ghostbuster is miles ahead of the original release. their should be no argument on that

This is really not hard. Half the discs are from films released from 2010 - 2012. Those had 4K DIs the first time. The only one that makes this complicated is Taxi Driver, which was mastered in 4K for its debut.

Anything Sony releases in this line that was not released in an era where 4K DIs were commonplace or previously mastered in 4K (Lawrence of Arabia being a possible example) is going to get a fresh 4K scan from the original camera negative.

Take a look at this comparison, and focus on the park area(?) to the left. It's all there in the original transfer, but only barely visible in the new one. That's called black crush.

Certain things look better in the new transfer, and certain things worse. I prefer the old transfer better, even though it's not from a 4k master. If you share a different viewpoint, that's perfectly fine. I'm not going to tell you that you're wrong (or post YouTube clips, or oddly accusing people of trolling). And I've watched the video comparison of the two and the differences are pretty small, regardless. Maybe there should be more important things in the world to get so riled up about.

Thanks to the 1 or 2 people with responses that didn't make me feel like I was talking with a room filled entirely of immature teenagers.

Does anyone know if the Mastered in 4K version of Spider-Man 2 will include both the theatrical and 2.1 versions of the movie?

Probably not 2.1 since two other movies have lost their extended/directors cut. don't know what Sony is thinking

That isn't black crush. It's called "very high contrast" in the old transfer.

Doubtful. Personally, I just want a decent remaster of the theatrical version. Mine has shipped, along with MiB.

No interest in these discs doesn't mean no interest in the questions associated with Sony releasing a "Mastered in 4K" series of BDs.

1) If there is little/no difference, why bother releasing these in the first place?

2) If there is improvement, why didn't Sony get it right in the first place?

3) If the new transfer is worse, why is Sony releasing an inferior product?

4) Why are there dropped extras when the discs have between 10 to 20 GBs of free space? It's not as if the video and audio magically expand to fill that free space while the BD is playing in your BD player.

5) Why is Sony sowing seeds of confusion? Even people who use BD.com were confused, wondering if these were actual 4K discs that needed to be played in 4K players.

Clearly there was a "Super Moon" that night during filming of the old transfer.

1. Money.
2. I don't have a time machine.
3. Ask Sony.
4. See 3.
5. Sony is not at fault for the poor reading comprehension of the general public and their failure to grasp the simplest of information. If someone manages to confuse the term 'Mastered in 4K' with actual 4K content and the fact that it clearly states on the covers, that they can be played in ALL blu-ray players, I have zero sympathy for them and would cross the street to avoid these people.

LOL! I just noticed your "reason for editing" AFTER I deleted my post! Now it's really a big mystery.
