Well if thats it thats it. And I guess it also has to do if you like Zach Snyder's style or not. For me personally this film hits on all cylinders. I cannot imagine there being a better Superman film.

When Superman is taken to the Kryptonian ship, He has a pretty rough time getting used to the Kryptonian atmosphere. When he does get used to it, he's lost all the effects of earth's atmosphere (He's got no powers).

The Kryptonian soldiers running around earth in their suits have masks that keep them in Kryptonian atmosphere. When their masks get broken then they start getting all the effects of earth's atmosphere at once.

SO...

Shouldn't the Kryptonians have had no powers (strength or speed) while they were wearing their masks? How is it that they were able to acquire the strength and speed of Superman while still wearing the masks? And why did the other powers all kick in when the masks were broken?

HELP?

it is a bit of a cheat. it isn't just the atmosphere, it is also the sun that makes him strong. if it was just one or the other, the moment he got into the higher atmosphere he should have been in trouble. likewise, he shouldn't be able to do anything in the dark. but his body is supposed to store the energy which creates a bit of a problem plot wise. so the Kryptonians being in the sun start to develop their powers but it isn't until they get start breathing Earth's air that they really kick in. but again, the whole thing is a bit of a cheat - Superman shouldn't have had any real issues dealing with them.

I liked Snyder's style. I thought he would be a perfect fit for Superman and handle the action very well and I got what I expect in that category.

The faults I have with the movie rest a lot on the writing/editing. Obviously the director has the final say, but I felt they rushed some things a bit too much.

Supes kissing Lois at ground zero was one example. It was sooooo inappropriate. Tons of people just died and you stand in the middle of the destruction and make out? Really no idea what the writers were thinking.

I think they believed they had to have a "romance" so they fit in a kiss where they could - which ended up being one of the most inappropriate times in the movie. Personnally, I don't think they needed the kiss in this movie. It made no sense actually since they've been in each other's physical presence for about 5 minutes total through the story.

I think a more mature way to approach this would have been for them to have a close friendship in this movie. Go through hell together - and save the romance for the next film.

But that's just me, and just one of the things I would have done different.

However, as far as the action goes - no complaints from me.

Not only that, but all four logos were included in the same animation. Like, the Warner logo spins around to reveal the Legendary logo etc, and it had a brownish tint, not the blue one seen here. I think they just took the intro from The Dark Knight Rises and added the Man of Steel logo from a trailer. The film's title wasn't actually shown until the end credtis. After the four logos it jumped straight into the film, just like the Nolan Bat-films (though they showed a bat-logo just after the company logos).

I also felt Goyer felt the need to turn Zod more into a madman at the end to help the audience accept Superman killing him more. So in general I blame the audience and their reliance/expectation of TV tropes in film.

Yeah, it came out of nowhere for me. I would think, landing at ground zero would be time for a scene like this.

They land, Lois covers her mouth, tears rolling from her eyes surveying the destruction. Superman looking anguished says, "I tried...but I couldn't save them."

Lois, realizing that for him, not only is he devastated at the loss of life, but feels responsible for it, takes his hand. "You saved so many."

Both look at the sound of Perry finally being able to get Jenny from the rubble. Looks of relief on both Jenny and Perry's faces turn to fear as they see Zod emerge.

(This scene would really help sell the last scene with Superman and Zod.)

The writers really needed moments like this to let the feelings sink in and let the moment breathe.

Again - just my personal preference on how I would have liked to have seen this play out if I had written it. No need to force romance and rush from one action scene to the other without taking a second let he audience soak things in along with the characters.

I did my part, I just saw it again! I enjoyed it even more than the first viewing! This is a FIVE STAR movie all the way! The best movie of the year (so far)!

Bring on the sequel!!

Finally had a chance to watch it again. Amazing. All of my senses were attacked. I felt sadness. Disbelief. The hair on my arms stood up.

I'll start by saying this film will be remembered as a landmark for comic book movies.

IMO, these are the most important comic book movies ever. Not just for how good they were, but for what they did for the genre in helping to push it forward

1978 - Superman The Movie
1989 - Batman
2002 - Spiderman
2008 - The Dark Knight
2012 - The Avengers
2013 - Man of Steel

Man of Steel is such a refreshing take on the comic book movie genre. Just when Disney threatened to drag the genre into the gutter Man of Steel saves it. I say comic book movie but Man of Steel is first and foremost a science fiction film. And it does science fiction bloody well. Sure, there area few small instances of it copying other well known science fiction films, but overall it has more then enough originality to stand on its own.

When we first saw the Kryptonian clothing armor or whatever it is on display before the film's release I and others laughed it off as something from Gladiator. How could I have been so wrong. The wardrobe and technology used in Man of Steel is class A science fiction. If Man of Steel is not nominated for a Costume design academy award something is seriously wrong.

The greatness of Man of Steel is that it does more then simply entertain like other recent comic book movies. It pulls you into the story of an alien in a foreign world, struggling to fit in and live a normal life. If you ever felt like an outacst, then you can sympathize with Clark Kent, but you know his plight is much worse then yours ever was. The scene with young Clark Kent hiding in the storage room is still heart wrenching. Myabe not for those who were always accepted, but for anyone who has ever been alienated, its heart wrenching to watch.

Man of Steel takes several breaks throughout the movie to remind you of the big picture: Clark is an alien struggling in an foreign environment. As a baby he struggles to breathe. Whenever there is calamity he has to make the choice of going to help or not so he doesnt risk his identity. The film drives this point home so as to not let the spectacle drown out its biggest message.

Faora steals every scene she is in. Like other actors in the film Traue adds a layer to her performance through convincing facial expressions. A raised eyebrow here and a smirk there add layers to the character unobtainable through dialogue. Her rivalry with Colonel Hardy is hilarious. I believe in the ending sequence she gives him a face and I thought it was funny as can be.

Speaking of humor, there were only 2 other people in the theater with me. They laughed throughout the entire film. Of course if you only find elementary humor like witty banter and one liners funny you'll be disappointed. If you can appreciate more refined humor, you'll have a blast.

The action scenes to me felt for the first time like I was watching a comic book or animation come to life in live action on screen. This film does not apologize at all and goes all out in recreating fascinating battles of epic power and speed. Nothing is dumbed down so there can be more live action stunt actors involved. There is heavy use of CGI to bring these scenes to life, and I would have it no other way. The final fight between Zod and Superman features a flying sequence that amazed me even more the second time around.

The pace of the film is astonishing and wowed me even more the second time around. I have to seriously question its 2 hours and 23 minute runtime. How is that possible? It feels like 90 minutes. I was sitting there at the theater and I said to myself I cant believe this film is just about over. What happened to the time? Every scene grabs your attention by the balls and wont let go. You have no choice but to focus on the screen. To be fair part of the feeling you get from the pace may be due to the fact theres not a well defined 'middle' section to the film, but either way its a rollercoaster ride that never, ever lets up.

If anything, Hanz Zimmer epic and powerful score is underused. From the very first scene to the final solution with Zod Zimmer's soundtrack elevates what we are seeing on screen to another level.

So yes, Man of Steel saved comic book movies from spiraling into cheap, disposable and forgettable summer entertainment. Maybe if this film was released in November or December people would have gone in expecting something different allowing them to notice the layers here that arent so easily uncovered if your just looking for another noisy blockbuster.

My post is ridiculous, at least it didn't take two and a half hours to tell you. The same story could have been told in an easy hour and a half and it would have been worth another look. Don't tell me you liked the hour of fighting and smashing buildings over and over and over and over and over and over etc.

I never had a problem with the storyline. I thought the movie was good up until the fighting for an hour.

The Marvel studio movies are becoming more and more generic.

They lack emotions and are mostly played for laughs.

They are nearing Green Lantern bad if the trend continues.
