The "kissing at inappropriate times" nitpick??? I can't believe people in here.
Welcome to mainstream movie filmmaking - the "kiss" during and/or after a big action chaotic scene has been in Hollywood films since the beginning. It's a fantastical superhero comic book movie, not a movie about 9/11 as some of you are assuming is the equivalent. Superman making out with Lois after a whole city got leveled is not the same as a couple making out in front of the fallen World Trade Center buildings. But now I'll get the "it's one thing to suspend one's belief but, come on, who would make out after the city got leveled?" Go back to the beginning of the paragraph - it's a fantastic unrealistic movie, a form of entertainment, a form of escapism, not a documentary on how real people act.

The fight with Zod and Co. was a really good workout for Superman so he probably had super blue balls and was ready to get busy with Lois when the chaos calmed down.

You'll get a "But they wanted MOS to be more realistic!" response.

I went to see Man of steel yesterday, after waiting months for it, and after seeing it, it didn't disappoint at all.

[Show spoiler]One thing I liked about it was just how well Henry Cavill pulled the role off. A lot of people have been comparing him to Christopher Reeve's performance of Superman. You don't compare the two, they portray superman very differently. Reeve's performance was a light hearted, boy scout type Superman. Henry Cavill's superman is a more bad ass Superman, who really shows his human side. when he breaks General Zod's neck to stop him from killing an innocent family, not only is that something Christopher reeve's Superman wouldn't dream of doing, you can also sense that he was angry with himself for doing that. That really shows how human he is, even though he is from another planet.

The pacing of this movie was weird, but lent it's self towards the feel of the movie i thought. The first 1 hour and 30 minutes was developing the characters, and introducing the major plot details, such as why Kal-el(Superman) was sent to earth, and why General Zod is after him. the last hour, however was action packed. buildings are getting destroyed, cars are blowing up, there is destruction everywhere. superman is getting flown everywhere by the villains, and vice versa. although there is a lot of heavy action, it's nothing like Michael Bay's Transformer trilogy, where you can't tell what was going on. i had an itchy eye, and i could stop watching the movie to scratch my eyelid, then look and i could still understand what was going on.

The whole movie was quite humour-less, just as other Zack Snyder movies, such as 300 and Watchmen. there are little bits and pieces that make you laugh, but the overall movie is very humour-less, which i liked, as this was a serious movie for serious people.

Overall, the movie was fantastic, and much better than anything i have seen in a long time.

5/5

Lois went to Clark Kent's house to talk about him being an alien. It was casually established that she knows that Superman and Clark Kent are one and the same, so I dont know why people are even discussing "does she know" at the end of the movie.

It wasn't casual or subtle at all. It was made perfectly clear and was a direct attack, for lack of a better word, on the previous versions of those characters. A necessary 'change' for a modern telling of this tale. The Lois/Clark relationship as depicted in Donner's film has always been a massive sticking point for me and I was glad they did a complete 180 with it in this.

Love this post from superherohype in response to Man of Steels Superman
[Show spoiler]constantly fighting & not saving 80% of the humans caught in the middle of everything. Then killing Zod

Right?

So, basically, what I'm getting from you is that you felt the film wasn't even violent enough. You actually wanted to force Superman to feel the agony of going to save one person, and then being faced with the reality that his distraction cost the lives of many, many more.

Go get the novel. It might make you feel better. In the book, Clark is very angsty over the death toll, and tries to check for survivors as he's fighting.

And just so you know, Superman did not snap Zod's neck for "just one family". He snapped Zod's neck because he knew without a doubt that Zod was too dangerous to the people of earth. Not just four people...but 7 billion people.

I fail to see how Superman killing Zod (which he does in the comics too, so stop whining that he killed someone) was somehow Clark being heartless.

Just a general note to all fans of comic books:

If you go into a movie with preconceived notions of who and what you think the character should be, prepare to be disappointed.

The movies are not going to retell the same stories over and over. They are going to change the stories, they are going to change the characters, particularly to fit into our current circumstances.

Instead of deciding before you go into a film what your idealized vision would be, allow the creators to share their vision with you. You will be happier for it, and you may even learn to see your beloved characters from a totally new perspective.

Warner Brothers did the right thing bringing in heavy hitters like Nolan and Snyder for Man of Steel. They need to do the same for future films. guillermo del Toro would be a start

I was just thinking about that very same topic, and I know it may not belong on this thread and, I know some may not agree on this, AT ALL, but I thought maybe they should have an icon that has the characteristics of Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, and Peter Parker and name him... Jay Garrick, or THE FLASH. That maybe three opposing characters in one but I'm picturing Tom Cruise from Jack Reacher / Knight and Day as the quick savvy Jay Garrick who gains his powers as a college professor studying and experimenting in heavy water. It soon turns into a superhero's man-hunt for the evil that have perished his loved ones

I can imagine an origin movie with a soundtrack that's something close to this...

... or this too...

Justice League Movie Scene : As battles are raging in Metropolis and Gotham City, we see one of our heroes, Flash, who is badly injured and needs assistance. As he struggles to pick himself back up, here comes Superman to swoop him off his feet...

FLASH : Where have you been?

Superman just smirks, as he flies off carrying Flash.

For some reason I can even see Tom (Cruise), yes Tom, play this role as a Captain America so-to-speak kind of character for The Justice League. And hey, why not? Tom runs like it's nobody's business

Did anyone notice this-
I think the scene where the Ghost/Hologram of Jor-El changes the Kryptonian Spaceship's atmosphere like earth making all the Kryptonians powerless without their knowledge, was a slight homage to Superman II when Chris Reeve does the same thing in the Fortress, to Terrence Stamp and Co.(The Kryptonians I mean, come on )
