Sony "Mastered in 4K" Blu-ray Titles May 14 and July 16

Yeah...I don't understand what's confusing about this (and in fact I don't think it is confusing consumers, it's just that people on all forums everywhere in the world often fail to read other pages of a thread), and I honestly don't care if Sony didn't get it right the first time, because it's not like these discs are arriving a few months after the initial releases. That would be cause for anger. This is a specialized line and nobody has to buy into it, considering quite a few people are satisfied with the existing releases, and half of them aren't even relevant. The one concern that does make sense is the extras...but it's not like that point is changing. People are aware, Sony's shafting the consumer in that respect, but there's nothing that can be done about it.

Oh, undoubtedly. You can take the dropped extras, etc and say "Bad Sony!" You can even call some the transfers rather questionable, but I refuse to concede to the notion that anyone has been led up the garden path, with regards to exactly what these releases entail.

1) If there is little/no difference, why bother releasing these in the first place?

2) If there is improvement, why didn't Sony get it right in the first place?

3) If the new transfer is worse, why is Sony releasing an inferior product?

4) Why are there dropped extras when the discs have between 10 to 20 GBs of free space? It's not as if the video and audio magically expand to fill that free space while the BD is playing in your BD player.

5) Why is Sony sowing seeds of confusion? Even people who use BD.com were confused, wondering if these were actual 4K discs that needed to be played in 4K players.

The biggest question is why are you still posting the same things as you were on page one for the 301st time.

That is more annoying than the 4k line of blu-rays.

You have no interest in them & wouldn't buy them if they were $1.

It seems your only interest here is to bother those that do enjoy the line.

You don't add anything to the thread at all. Why are you even here.

It was funny to start with. Now it's really annoying.

I never thought I'd see the day people were fussing about high bitrate encodes.

You've said that over a hundred times.

I haven't found any other bitrates as high as these yet.

Maybe it will force the other studios to do higher bitrates & always use 4k scans.

Most of these are $14.99

Warner charges higher for their movie only editions with lower bitrate encodes.

I don't hear you complaining about them.

It just gets tiresome hearing the same thing over & over & over.

I haven't seen anyone complain that actually bought Ghostbusters.

It's a night & day difference over my old copy.

Not just the overblown contrast is fixed but the grain is better resolved.

It's not as noisy as the first release also.

The only one you'll find complaining is the ones that haven't bought it like the violin player above that keeps repeating the same things over & over like Rainman.

Personally I'd sacrifice a bit of bitrate for special features. Case in point the orignal release of Taxi Driver vs the Mastered in 4K version (even though the orignal version was already done in 4K.)

Nah mate. Keep an eye on caps-a-holic though. They generally put up quality caps pretty quickly.

Super White needs to be turned on. Good luck noticing a difference, though.

Super White set to ON. Make sure your outputting YCbCr and that all your equipment supports x.v.Color, both receiver (if one) and display. Btw what is your display?

I think just about every studio has dropped at least some bonus features on various re-releases at some point. Easy though, just keep the original if those features matter.
