getting a dvd upconverter would be a waste of money....you'll eventually want a Bluray player anyways.

Who's to say you'll always have a 26" tv?

If you spend any money, might as well be worth it...and Bluray is worth it.

i second that. blu-ray would be noticeable even at that screen size. getting a dvd upconverter would be a waste IMO.

if u NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER in a million years change the size of your tv (or even the resolution) then i suppose you could get the upconvert. but if you will upgrade eventually (doesnt matter when) then blu ray is the way to go.

you will also notice a significant difference even on your 26" so id go blu.

don't waste money on a dead technology like dvd.

and if you want a quality blu ray player for cheap, look at the ps3...they are great

alright thanks, and just one more question...i sit about 3 or 4 feet away from the tv. Will i see the lines in the tv sitting near it, or is the tv small enough that i can sit near it

um.... I don't really get this question but I sit around 4 feet away from my 46 inch AQUOS and I don't notice any lines so your probably good. when you pick up your PS3 get Uncharted too! Amazing looking game in 720p! Good luck!

Upconversion is viable if you have a huge DVD collection which could take some time to replace. Since your future purchases would be blu-ray , you may use your blu-ray player to upconvert. PS3 is an outstanding blu-ray player and very good value for money, however, IMO, it is not the best DVD upconverter.

Yeah, it does a good job of upconverting DVDs.

BTW, what do you mean by...

Most likely you will be okay with 720p on 26" set at that distance. If you are 2 feet away, you may see some improvement with a 1080p set but I don't think it is worthwhile unless you are increasing the screen size.

That's an important point - I know it's the case for PS3 and I thought for all Blu-Ray players (but could be wrong on that). Upconversion is only possible via HDMI - so if your TV does not have HDMI, you will not be able to utilize upconversion.

My TV that has PS3 hooked up to it only has component (nearly 6 years old), so I cannot upconvert on that TV.

I think he's referring to the screen door effect that we saw with RP LCDs and CRTs.

To the OP, no, you will not see the "lines" in the screen from any distance, as flat panel LCDs do not exhibit that effect.
