Apples and oranges... Two different types of Superhero stories, told two different ways... I love it. Man of Steel has made Superman relative to today and that's the kick-off DC needed; look at all the people crying about the destruction, his emotional state during the battle-or lack thereof, at least you're having a discussion about it.

The Avengers gave us the ultimate team-up film thus far, and we ate it up. I can't get enough of these films!

Marvel, DC.keep em' coming!

I know, this is just my, and many others opinion. There are many who will like this movie, for varying reasons and I understand it very much!
I just wish that people hadn't pulverized Superman Returns the way they did in 2006. It was a beautiful and emotionally powerful movie, and in my opinion at least, didn't deserve that extreme hatred! There was too much hatred for Brandon Routh, who gave a very honest and heartfelt performance that resonates a lot with me, 'cause I've been in that space personally! The idea of being an outcast is something I identified with a lot in SR than in MOS.Superman has always given me strength and none better than Brandon Routh's turn as the Last Son of Krypton!

But still, I wish all the best for team MOS, and hope they deliver a much better movie than the first one, the next time!

I've never understood the hate for Returns . It was a serious, mature take on Superman and the action sequences were jaw dropping! Not to mention the beautiful imagery (such as Supe flying towards the sun when on his suicide mission, etc). I love the score by Ottman as well, who in my opinion did a brilliant job of integrating the original theme while writing wonderful new music for the movie. Strangely enough, I find this movie really uplifting.

Of course it's uplifting, it's about the return of Kal-El to our world after he took an extended hiatus and about the reunion of the best comic book couple of all-time. That's one thing I hope we see in the MoS sequel, Kal-El flying Lois somewhere while they have a heart felt conversation about something.

I liked Lois standing on Supe's feet as opposed to the flying that was done in the Reeve movie.
Personally, I want them to have a conversation on the Kent farm during dawn or dusk.

I love the atmosphere in this scene (first 37 seconds of this clip) :
And the music does a great job of enhancing said atmosphere!

I loved Superman Returns, which is strange to me since it was basically a continuation of the Donner films which I thought were just OK & nothing special.

I caught parts of Superman Returns last night on TV as I was walking in and out of the room (my parents were watching it) and was quite impressed with the Krypton Island segment, where Luthor and his goons beat the shit out of Supes. Very well shot and scored. And I thought it was clever how LL hates SM because he sent him to jail for 5 years, so he stabs the Man of Steel with a Kryptonite shiv.

just watched it again for the 4th time now. Still the theater we were in was packed and it seem like all liked it as i heard mumblings saying what an awesome movie ect..

This movie is a masterpiece in the superhero genre

[Show spoiler]Also finally looked after Reeeves face when he flies and its there wow what an awesome tribute to Reeve Snyder made there. Also the whole suit thing from Zod and his minions they had the powers because at the eyes it was opened up for them to absorb the sun earths UV.

This movie is perfect in every way. I fail to see how anyone would complain about a superman movie that finally shows the massive strength these Aliens have on earth with the way they hit each other flying through the air and buildings. and the planet Krypton more and more origin story as well.

the end is just perfect indeed
[Show spoiler]SUPERMAN BEGINS THERE

I didn't much like the needlessly choppy timeline nor the overreliance on CG (not so much the action scenes, but stuff like the battle armour and giant winged creatures, it's Attack Of The Clones all over again) and Cavill seems to be a bit stiff, but overall I enjoyed it.

The action was brilliantly OTT and was everything I've always wanted to see in a Supes film: super-beings smashing the shit out of each other and everything around them. The shot of Kal getting knocked through building after building, right into the distance was terrific. And I loved it when Law and Order guy fronted up to Faora with just his combat knife.

As for the complaints about collateral damage, they always seem very churlish to me; whether it's real life or make believe, there will always be innocents caught in the line of fire and not even Supes can be in two places at once. I don't need to see a shot of him stopping to brood because the film has established that Kal wants to protect life, not destroy it. The best way of doing that is nullifying General Zod and his cohorts, and the hysterical complaints about
[Show spoiler] the neck break are ridiculous.

The way that some people are painting it is as if Supes does it in a blasé or offhand manner, whereas he's actually pleading with Zod, as much for Zod's own life as the people he's about to kill, and even then he waits until the last possible second before twisting the General's melon. The film makes it clear that he's got no choice and it's the very act of killing (and one of the last of his race at that!) which may solidify his stance about not taking a life. He's had to defy the teachings of Pa Kent which will haunt him for the rest of his days.

No, I mean the annoying prevalence of CG for things like costumes and superfluous digital beasties. George would've been proud.
