4th- Its got a Great Cast!
5th- The anticipation and expectations, which alone pulls crowd, especially Superman fans!

If it was so great either, it wouldn't fall from its first position after the first week. The Dark Knight didn't, because it was a truly Great movie, where more or less everything worked! And I am not one to compare MOS with STM, because they are very different, and belong to different eras and styles of filmmaking.

The film still had great moments, no doubt! But it failed, (in my eyes at least) to be the Super film it promised to be! It was shallow and the depth in the story and character was uneven and scattered. Once Zod entered the city, the movie transformed into a Michael Bay torture-fest!
I sincerely hope they tone down the chaotic violence in the sequel (and I want one), and concentrate more on the characters and in connecting the parts of the story to make it feel like a whole, rather than disconnected!
This is why we like The Dark Knight, not just because Heath Ledger was Great, but because the story was so connected and the branchings so seamless, that you never could get out of the movie! Chris Nolan made us involved in a story as active participants, trying to figure out the next move of the Joker, it kept us in tenterhooks. Man of Steel never could engage me in that extensive way, apart from a few scattered scenes.
In the first half, any single scene they showed Clark in was succeeded by a flashback, which felt forced and not natural! This is because the flashbacks kept coming at regular intervals!
Anyway, as I said, I didn't hate the movie! I certainly enjoyed it in parts, and was very inspired by the message of hope! That's Man of Steel's Strength-
The Hope!
Interesting. The way I see it, this Superman's action is closer to what I've seen in the animated series. Superman Returns imitates the Reeve movies in many ways in terms of action. They're all about lifting and carrying heavy or big things.

So the animated Superman action is about epic collateral damage, the Reeve Superman and the Routh Superman action is about showing off lifting strength. I prefer animated Superman action. I believe the Reeve Superman didnt have Man of Steel style fights because they didnt have convincing enough CGI to pull it off, so they made him appear super by catching tower antennas and other things.

Any movie that has collateral damage is a dumb Transformers flick now? I think thats very unfair. Star Trek Into Darkness featured
[Show spoiler]an extremely unnecessary star ship crash into skyscrapers
so where is all the hate about that? Wheres the people crying about disaster porn? Because by the standards Man of Steel is held to it was just as meaningless as any damage done in this film.

That can happen when your asked to imitate another actor (Reeve) instead of being allowed to put your own twist on the character

I think somehow people keep.missing the point. I'm pretty sure that no one is upset that there was collateral damage.

I watched this film tonight and loved every minute of it! I have to admit when
[Show spoiler]John Kent went out to save his families dog from the tornado and motioned to Kal-EL not to save him,
I got a little teary. I loved the science fiction elements that surrounded this movie. This film was above and beyond every other live action Superman movie. 5/5

You'll probably get a lot of people quoting you telling you how much they hated that scene...

Nice! I hope I can watch it again, but I kind of doubt it . Oh well, if I don't, I am happy I got to watch it once in the theatres.

I was both moved and annoyed by that very moment. Great dynamic scene. Really draws a variety of emotions out of you.

I know what you mean, I was pissed and emotional during that scene. I think Synder/Goyer/Nolan wanted us to feel both emotions.

Why's that?
Some say it's not something they think Jonathan Kent would do. And say Clark should have done whatever he could, no matter what to stop it from happening. To me it's just most people not liking the fact he didn't go out the way they thought he should have.

Ah, I guess I don't really know the comic that well. However I do believe that the comic/book/novel character and the movie character of adapted films should be somewhat different.

So do I, I knew going in what to expect because I couldn't help but watch all the trailers & behind the scenes videos. Most of the time when I do that I end up hating the movie, but this one wasn't one of them. One thing I kept in mind that they said in some interviews & bts videos was to not go in expecting to see what your used to seeing.

That was a good way to go into the film. I watched all the traliers too. I wish I hadn't, but I was really excited about this movie. I think from now on a won't watch a tralier unless it is: 1) infront of a movie that I am watching in the theatres or 2) under two minutes along. Traliers now give away to much of a film's plot.

Michael Shannon is such a great actor, I hope he gets more roles after being in this movie.

Did you watch MOS in 3D? I heard a lot of bad things about the conversion but I thought it added a decent amount of depth and some pretty cool pop out's. what did you think of the 3D (if you watched it in the format)?

Unfortunately, I can't watch movies in 3D without getting a headache. It might be the fact that I wear prescription glasses and how bad my eyes are to need prescription glasses. I haven't tried to see if attachments change anything, so that might fix the headache problem. Maybe I should see if they make prescription 3D glasses. lol I love Michael Shannon as well, I was a tad upset with what happened to his Zod.

Well it IS a comic book movie so things can be undone, although that would make the ending of the climactic battle of this film a lot more meaningless so I hope they leave it as is. Imagine if Snyder and Goyer can somehow give us a Lex or a Brainiac or a Doomsday we can care about. I doubt they can do that for Darkseid, he's pretty much the embodiment of evil.

What's done is done, and I hope they leave it that way. Like you said, it would make the ending to the first meaningless. I loved how they handled Doomsday in Smallville, would love to see what they could do with him in the MOS universe.

Bleh Darkseid and Doomsday were both too much for Smallville, although they certainly tried on both. So far Faora has been 3 good-looking women, although I think Erica Durance is slightly better-looking than Antje Traue. Wish Erica could've reprised the role of Lois in the films, oh well.

That's too bad. You should try those 3D clip ons sometime, I heard they work well. I was a little upset with what happened with Zod too, I kind of liked him. Why did Kal-El
[Show spoiler]Yell out in sorrow/pain when he snapped his neck
? Was it because
[Show spoiler]he killed one of the last members of his kind
?

I kind of hope that Lex Luthor doesn't make an appearance in future Man of Steel films. He has been done too many times.

I agree Lex HAS been done too many times but he is the quintessential Superman villain so at the very least he will most likely have a supporting role in 1 if not more films. I would love to see Lex, if they use him, throw a battery of villains at Superman and have the film conclude with him trying to get Batman to help out. Although after what they did in this film it's a bit hard for me to imagine the kind of threat THIS Superman would need help with.
