I think you only have seen BD's from distributors like Warrer or Fox, all the independent ones normally only have Dutch subs.
I can confirm Agoro has only Dutch subs, text during the movie is in English, it's a BD25(as stated on the back of the inlay) and it's region free(tested).

Any idea if Agora has been released in Holland and if it is indeed region free? Can't even find an Asian blu ray of this.

Default Agora Blu-ray in the USA

Yes, it is disappointing that such a fine film has so far not been released on Blu-ray in the USA, but never say never!

I suggest you do what I just did. Email Newmarket Films and ask them (nicely!) for a Blu-ray release. Spread the word!

info@newmarketcap.com

It's not uncommon for movies to get a Blu-ray release further down the line.

Good news Agora Blu-Ray seekers!
I waited till I watched my disc before reporting this.
No need for a region free player!

The Dutch version is Region Free, or more correctly, all 3 regions.
It is superbly rendered, has lossless HD sound, it has the introduction and other text in English,
same as the American theatrical version.
The Dutch subtitles can be turned off.
The documentary on the making-of is in Spanish, but about half of has the actors and the production designer speaking English.
Since the only option for subs is Dutch, if you want the full information of the documentary you'll need to rent the DVD.
I will be doing that because I am fascinated with this subject. All of the bonus material is in HD.

To get your copy easily, go to FreeRecordStore.nl. Enter search for Agora BluRay. You can use a translator
to get through the Dutch instructions, but it is set up like any other shopping cart. The quickest way to check out
is with PayPal. It costs about 30 American dollars with shipping, and takes about a week to arrive in the mail.

It's available in Brazil as a Region All (A,B,C) BD with English and Portuguese subtitles and 3 audio options:

English DTS-HD 5.1 / English PCM 2.0 / Portuguese DTS-HD 5.1

Text inserts in English. No special features, though.

i saw this movie in the US on DVD and liked it ...
aware there are versions out there on blu-ray but not yet here in the US. i'm looking to buy one of the versions i noticed a seller on amazon that has the spanish version, and grooves-inc. has a german version.

region locked doesn't bother me, i have multi-region playback.

i just want to be sure that there is english audio included with these movies. when i saw the DVD, the actor's were actually speaking english, so i'm assuming these releases have the actors speaking in english but with the audio in the language of the version/country the disc was released.

here are links to the versions i am interested in buying ...

Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Agora-Max-Ming...1032387&sr=8-2

the seller (amazon link) said to me there is no english audio on this item, but blu-ray.com says otherwise.

The listing on OFDb claims it has English and German DTS-HD MA and that it's regions ABC.

thanks ...

i put myself in an akward situation, i ordered the german blu-ray, it hasn't yet shipped from grooves-inc. but i didn't take into account that the intro of the movie features some text. i think that might be in german. a few posts up someone mentioned the dutch version has the intro in english.

anyone know if the german version has an option to view the intro text in english ?

i cancelled the order for the german version and instead bought the french version from amazon.fr. the site states this version is region free, but in fact the disc is locked to region 2.

i can confirm that the movie/story text displayed is in fact in english.

Uh, few posts up its confirmed that the Brazilian disc and the Dutch disc are exactly like that, unless I don't understand what you mean.

Dutch and Brazilian discs are a BD-25 though?

German and French ones appear to be a BD-50?

Spanish one Im not sure on.

I really want this one (I saw it on DVD a while ago and naively assumed a blu-ray would be easily available very soon!). I know the Italian one is to be avoided (unless you speak Italian!).

Which is the best one to get for an english speaker I wonder? German one is cheaper than the French one but the French one may have a slip and looks nicer?

I have the French BD, and couldn't be happier. It's a very solid release PQ/AQ.

Cheers. Mine's on the way so I'll soon find out! Its funny how certain films just dont get released in the UK but do in other European countries.

3 Days of the Condor
American Psycho
Agora (of course!)
Alexander Revisited

Ive got all these of course but it would have been a lot easier (and cheaper) if they had UK versions!

For those interested - Agora (FR) didnt come with a slip for me.

Im very impressed with the PQ and AQ - miles ahead of the DVD of course. The text at the start of the film is in English as mentioned above. The documentaries have no english subtitles as mentioned before. Some of the cast/crew speak English though so if you dont speak Spanish you will still understand part but not all of the documentaries.

I'm rather late to this discussion but I recently received a South African BD release of this film (from Sterkinekor Entertainment). This was a kind gift from a friend based there, I believe he got it as a 2 movies for 100R (~10USD) deal.
The disc has an excellent 1080p transfer and English 5.1 DTS-HR track (with English subtitles). Bonus features include a short introduction by the director, a 61 min making of and director's audio commentary (all 3 subtitled in English,) and some concept art montages of the costumes and production design. No slipcover, if you're into that sort of thing.

I wonder if this one might turn up cheap on ebay at some point? The 5.1 DTS-HR track isnt as good as the MA track on my French one but all the extras having English subtitles make this one better than the French one on that side.
