Didn't someone from Warner tell Bill Hunt that they would start doing blu-ray encodes for blu-ray and not ports anymore. I could be wrong. Even though New Line Cinema is absorbed by Warner now, they still use the same authoring house they've used before. so new line movies should be high bitrate encodes.

The HD-DVD version is only $15.00 on clearance. To compare the prices is unfair.

The Blu-ray version is the exact same price as the HD DVD version. The only reason you might see the HD DVD cheaper is due to clearance sales.

Will the blu-ray limited edition come with the 128mb batman branded flash drive also? Or is that only included with the DVD limited edition?

The only way to get these studios to wake up and give the customers what they want is to not buy that product if they cheap out on us. Somehow I don't think that is going to happen with Batman Begins because its a must own title that we've all been clamoring for.

Besides, the HD-DVD encode as some have said is really quite good. So we'll see.

Apparently no new features aside from the marketing hook of the footage from the sequel. Warner is really screwing with us if they don't encode this movie for Blu-ray specs. This BD will sell hundreds of thousands of copies over the course of its lifetime and any cost associated with the new encode could easily be amortized. If Warner won't re-encode this movie they will not be re-encoding any HD DVD they haven't released on Blu-ray.

The current HD DVD encode is now almost two years old and just doesn't hold up to reference Blu-rays released today. The transfer is soft and not the best presentation this movie deserves. The current encode is good but with an optimized Blu-ray encode it could be great.

I feel like someone should call Warner and make sure.

I'm kinda torn about whether to get the Special Edition or not...the movie was great but not that great IMO. Its not like its The GodFather or Star Wars where I won't hesitate to drop a buttload of money on any special feature movie package.

I just want the PQ and AQ to be excellent so I hope you guys are right about them re-doing it or w/e.

You know for about $19 even if it was a straight HD-DVD port with True-HD sound how can you go wrong for just the regular blu-ray non SE? I saw the HD-DVD version and its pretty damn friggen good. I wouldn't put too much weight on all this nonsense some people are spewing prejudging if its going to suck.

I mean some ***** because we never got this title from Warner, now we get it and they still *****. I am willing to bet that this will not be the last version of this title on blu-ray. Give it another 3-4 years and there will be some Ultimate Edition.

I'm a big fan of this movie, one of my favorites, but the stuff in the deluxe edition just seems kind of superfluous. I just wish they'd use different cover art. He looks like a cat or something. This will, however, be the first title whose PIP content I'll actually watch.

this is the first PIP on blu right?

Cars and Ratatouille had extensive PIP content. Not saying they were first, but they certainly precede Batman Begins.

As a past owner of the HD DVD I am not all thrilled with the Blu-ray specs. Plenty of space and still 16-bit audio. Extras not on Hi-Def. Most probably they will use HD DVD encode that has an average video bit rate of 12 Mbps which didn't even look better than the 20 Mbps broadcast copy. WTF Warner ? Give us something on par with the recent Fox / BVHE / Sony releases.

Atleast they gave us a DD True HD track on Batman Begins. If they gave us a regular DD 5.1 track like on V for Vendetta, I would be going friggen ape sh** right now!
