I kinda sorta "get" why theyre converting some of the newer films like iRobot, Gamer etc. but Predator? I'd prefer NOT seeing Arnold and co. popping off the screen like cardboard cutouts...cause thats exactly what we're gonna end up with.

Coming soon, Taxi Driver 3D! BAH!

They won't get my money, that's for sure. It's also become rather apparent that 3D conversions will never look close to a film that was shot with 3D cameras unless a tremendous amount of money is spent on the process like Cameron did with Titanic. Of course, Titanic is the exception to the rule, but I am not buying the 3D of that either mainly because I prefer the 2.39:1 ratio.

Can't the 3D transfer also be played back in 2D on some players?

I see, thanks for the info. Does that mean that the disc has the option to watch the 3D disc in 2D as well even if you don't have a 3D tv or player like Dredd 3D for example?

The alien monster Predator is on the hunt for San Diego Comic-Con attendees.

To mark the 3-D Blu-ray release of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring “Predator,” Fox is dedicating a jungle-themed booth to the film and its iconic extra-terrestrial.

“Predator” fans will be able to purchase custom-designed mini-figurines featuring their likeness. Because what fan wouldn’t want to see his or her own decapitated head, spine still attached, being held up by a Predator?

The action figures will be created using photographs of participants (taken at the booth) and 3-D printing. The figurines will be mailed to buyers after the convention. Click through the gallery above for a sneak peek.

The booth will also feature a Comic-Con exclusive “Predator 3D” head as well as the opportunity to preorder the Blu-ray. The release follows last year’s 3-D version of “I, Robot.”

Comic-Con International runs Thursday through Sunday (July 18-21) at San Diego’s waterfront convention center. Some 130,000 professionals and enthusiasts in the realms of sci-fi, fantasy, video games, comics and horror are expected to gather for the annual pop culture expo.
Pretty cool! Get a Predator holding your severed head with a spine dangling below lol. Not a bad addition to a movie-cave.

Is there a release date announced? If they are accepting pre-orders there must be a street date.

Almost bought Predator the other day. Glad I didn't, cause I forgot about the 3D release. Just hope it's a good conversion.

The original link in the OPS first post shows 11/20/2013, seems about right - October / November

Same here. If it's I Robot weak 3D quality, I will hold off. If it's medium or better 3D, I'll get it.

Even though i Robot was unwatchable in 3D by my standards I still can't help but get excited for this. Really hope they got better.

I was ok with the 3D in I Robot, it certainly isn't the greatest but I thought they did an ok job with it.

I'll be picking this up for sure.

I haven't bought Predator in hope of a new transfer.
This is my last chance. If this isn't right (i don't think they will release it again after this), I will buy the first release.

Fingers crossed it's a new transfer without DNR and that the 2D disc included also has that remaster. But it'll probably just be the Ultimate 'DNR' Edition in 3D.

Don't get your hopes up. In order for these 3D conversions of older films to work even halfway well, DNR has to be applied in order to remove grain. I'd wager that the transfer from the UHE will be used for this since it's already pretty much what the film will need to look like for a 3D conversion.

Yeah, I have to believe they had in mind an eventual 3D release while creating it.
