We'll get some news out of Star Wars Celebration Europe II next week. And there is always the cool Rebels series to look forward too.

To be fair, I and many others feel that those films were beyond awful (the first two prequels). It's almost impossible to think that the people working on Episode VII could create a film that was even in the ballpark of how terrible Episode I and II are.

Now, that doesn't mean the movie is going to be good. But yeah, I would bet all of my money that even if the movie turns out to be not that great, the general consensus would be "well, at least it wasn't Phantom Menace bad."

That being said, here's hoping the film is great. As long as I can say the film was at least on par with, say, Return of the Jedi overall, I won't feel disappointed. On par with the first two films, even better.

I'm sure this one will blow the others out of the park. Lucas ain't involved and we've evolved since 1999-2002 in terms of film.

So you are that person.

I am still a bit shocked that these were canned for theatrical release. I had no interest in seeing them but I am sure they would have done even better than TPM did after the news of the Disney buyout.

Don't have a link but just read JJ may drop out of Episode 7. Hope it's true.

If true it might coincide with the rumor that he was directing ST3 after all.

I just don't see Abrams dropping out of this thing and Disney allowing that to happen either.

Yes. People will write anything about Star Wars. Abrams is too gigantic of a get, and there's been too much press about it for Disney to want to suffer this giant publicity blow.

Yeah, I am taking a believe it when it is official stance on this one. That would be a major story, after they purchase Lucasfilm and get the hot name Director, to lose him over creative differences? I feel like they will do what they can to work around any issues that may exist.

We'll see, I guess.

Abrams finally realised just what a cluster eff it is working for Lucas. Lucas can never get any projects off the ground these days.

me too. bad enough he screwed up Trek, now he gets to screw up this too. might as well give him Planet of the Apes and he can ruin all 3 of the big sci-fi franchises. it is interesting though that they mention him not wanting to film in England. one of the rumors as to why he jumped from Trek to Wars was because he didn't have control over Trek that he wanted. Hard to believe that Disney would give him that kind of control here but it might be true. I won't believe it until something official, like a new director being announced, comes out but I hope it is true. they need someone who will push the saga and not just pander with action scenes and lame rip-offs from other films.

The new Trek movies are better than the prequels anyway. Get Joss Whedon to direct SW.

He would be a good choice as Serenity is one of my favourite films and I'm a fan of Firefly.

That said, Joss is probably too busy with the Avengers 2.

As for JJ, well this is just a rumour, if it turns out to be true then we could very well see Star Trek 3 out in 2015 by JJ if what Zachary Quinto said is true about them filming next year. I want him to direct both films though.

Maybe Spielberg could come in? I hope JJ does Trek first, and then goes back to Wars.

If Abrams really were to drop out, which established director has a free spot in their schedule to take over?

Isn't Spielberg busy with Robopocalypse? I've heard that, despite the rumours it's been cancelled, he's insisting it's still in progress and going ahead.

I'll use the wait-and-see attitude with this Abrams' rumour; Ain't it Cool have always been slightly inconsistent and hyperbolic with their unofficial statements -- it'll be those slow news days, of course -- so I'm taking what they say with a pinch of salt.
