Well given that the only things that make any money now are sequels, they might as well go ahead and make a sequel!

Actually it made 34.8 mill internationally over the weekend, bringing its total to 110 million. I think it should make over 200 mill internationally by the end of its run. Domestically should make 100 mill. Not terrible but will rely on home market sales to make back the rest of its money I'd think. Warner would have spent a bomb on marketing this over the 6 months leading up to release plus the 3 d conversion. I think they may have been better off leaving it at its original release date where it didn't have so much competition.

I googled this article. Basically it boils down to a movie needs to make twice its production budget in worldwide grosses to be a greenlight for sequels, and overseas grosses are not as valuable as domestic, because studios take in less money due to govt policies, currency costs, etc.

Unless the merchandising and home video sales are out of this world, studios execs will not likely greenlight a sequel, but movie execs are not the most rational people.

I'm down with a SB for this....

and just as a quick side, 3D induces migraines to me. I don't hate it, I just can't handle it.

It will get a sequel eventually. Its a new IP. If you compare it to Superman man of steel and Ironman 3 I thought it was pretty good and they made a lot of money.

What I am trying to say is that the words "Pacific Rim" don't shout ACTION MOVIE YOU WON'T BELIEVE!!! When the people get it on TV and such or blu ray they will like it and then, only then will it get a sequel.

A sequel could potentially do more good for the 1st. Back in 1990 T2 came out and everyone was like "I haven't watched the 1st one yet" and so then it made the 1st film bigger.

You mean the "title" doesn't imply it's a unrealistic action movie? Ok...but the title also might imply that it's a PBS economic series or BBC nature documentary.

T1 grossed $78m on a $6.4m budget. Your analogy doesn't make much sense.

MILLIONS of people saw T1. It was a huge movie back in the day. That's why T2 was also huge. PR just didn't have the buzz

As far as I know Amazon never stated this was 3D, hopefully it's just an oversight.

It'll be annoying if it isn't but Man of Steel 3D has just gone up and it's £26.99

Amazon.de's exclusive has the 3D version but is €40 so I suspect the UK version is likely to be 3D but the price might rise although Amazon.co.uk is currently only charging £16.75 for the 3D Amaray

Great Gatsby is £19 though. So £21 could easily be the 3D version - it's just Warners/Amazon taking advantage of the MoS brand by setting it at such a high price.
