The second release was a travesty, but I guess it's cool that you're happy with something so mediocre that you describe it as "wasn't that bad"...

How come no one ever has the bright idea to use this as a cover?

Wasn't this the same method used for the I, Robot conversion?

That doesn't seem to be a good sign, because apparently I, Robot in 3D was a massive letdown.

If it turns out they have done a new master for a 2D version of the film then they have my money. I'll just stick the second disc from the dvd into the case with it, and keep the film dvd for the commentary. The original release was okay, and anyone who thinks the UHE is fantastic should have thier BD player taken away from them and given a VHS deck and 4:3 televison for life!

Boring cover art. Original poster, or an image of the predator would've been great.

Yes, the same method was almost certainly used. No one from Fox has contradicted that. Ian Harvey is the man at Fox behind the use of the largely automated process. Here he discusses I Robot with the Blu-Ray Disk Association. :

A transcript of the interview: http://cinema-fanatic.com/2012/10/24...le/#more-13380 In the transcript, there is a typo where Harvey refers to the process as "ATVC". It is actually "a JVC".

Excerpt: "One of the things that we do, for Blu-ray in particular, there are many ways to convert, we choose to convert from a left eye, create a right eye. The reason we do that is Blu-ray allows you to play back 2D from one of the eyes that you select. So in our release of i,Robot, you can actually put the disc into a 2D player and still experience it in 2D." Unless someone from Fox contradicts it, it will be the same for Predator 3D.

You're right, LOL. I hate mentioning that I really do not hate the UHE around here.

He's getting so good at not quite repeating my wording, in ways that make me feel slightly unsure of what he's saying. Still:

I am still thinking this means one disc, but I'll try one final time to clarify. If he still doesn't, others can Tweet at him, I don't want to be annoying.

Nice try Tyler. Finn continues to give an ambiguous answer. Makes me think he doesn't know the answer. You might try asking if the conversion process used for Predator 3D is the same JVC VideoTek process used for I, Robot. If, the answer is yes, then the 3D and 2D is on one Blu-ray disk.

Will be getting this if it finally gets a decent 2D transfer. Couldn't care less about 3D.

I will say this: he's being vague, but I don't think it's intentional, or he wouldn't answer questions at all. I believe this is a new transfer, at the very least.

What I meant was he may not know. The release is months away. They could ultimately decide to throw in a BD of the UHE, similar to how Top Gun was packaged with the prior BD and the new 3DBD. The probability of that happening in very low, but possible.

There doesn't seem to be any question about a new transfer as noted in his tweets and the original news release. But, in my opinion, a transfer with 3D being the primary consideration, not 2D.
