I can't believe they never corrected that at all. Period. The blu-ray better be 6/5 in the video department to make up for past mistakes.

Hopefully it'll look as good as Kurenai no Buta. Best looking Ghibli BD so far IMO.

I checked it yesterday and I'm inclined to agree. Jaw-droppingly gorgeous!

Nah, Ponyo and Howl are the best. Porco best older film by far.

Well, yeah, kinda forgot to point that out. Porco looks amazing to me considering its age (21 years after all) which in itself feels more impressive than the newer films, but if just comparing side by side, then yes, the newer films do look better. It seems that Ghibli has found a sweet spot for the catalogue titles now, and one can only imagine how amazing Mononoke will look once that hits.

All subjective. I prefer how the older films look. (knowing they didn't just click the paint icon and fill a space with a colour on a computer.)

All the newer ones after spirited away, lack any a specific style, except Ponyo with it's crayon/water colour look. Which both technically and aesthetically look great.

I thought they still use the traditional method?

For the backgrounds, not for the front animation. Of course the actual characters and motion is all hand-drawn, it's just that the coloring happens digitally.

Yes, but Mononoke has digital paint in some scenes because it was behind schedule.

They expect it to earn a bit over $100 million when all is said and done, but Ponyo's Japanese box office tally ended up at $164 million, so while a success, it seems to be far from their best take. Even Arrietty earned $110 million, and that wasn't even a Miyazaki-directed film. Given the film's subject matter though, it is understandable...

heh heh i am so "ultra cool" that i knew all of those! (apart from the Howl's castle design one lol) cool link though!

I also read that Miyazaki's favourite brand of cigarettes is "Cherry" produced by Japan Tobacco INC. They abolished Cherry because a factory suffered damage in the recent earthquake disaster so Miya-San is smoking his supply sparingly!

Poor Miyazaki! Maybe he can quit after he finishes his batch and live till he's 100.

I laughed at #11. I bet you did Hayao, I bet you did.

Plus, they say people are smoking A LOT in The Wind Rises. If I didn't know any better, I'd almost think that Miyazaki was promoting the use of cigarettes in a positive light.

Well to be fair it is the taking place in the late 1930s and/or 1940s when smoking was much more popular.
