I am a fan of Ghibli, and I will judge to see if I like it or not.
As for not having it yet, normally I would but right now I am tight on money, and recently my region-free DVD player broke on me (then again it was only $30). I figure I have enough other stuff to watch and do I can wait till 2009 for that to hit USA. I am not sure how well it will do but I hope to at least rent if not buy the DVD at a lower price rather than an import price.

Thanks for the advice on the books too.. I will probably do that.
I heard the books get worse as you go so the first is the best.

I was always a huge fan of the series, I've read them all. My favorites are Dune, and God Emperor of Dune

Giyomu, can you confirm if you can watch the English soundtrack without French subtitles? The French were notorious at having forced French subtitles on English soundtracks on their DVD releases.

Thanks

And also if the extras have forced subtitles or not?

BTW any signs of "Braveheart" Blu-ray that was to be releases at the same time?
(Amazon.fr claim that was to be delayed for a few weeks also)

Alright,
I've just looked at it few minutes to check audio & video quality & subtitles
oh, I get it in a FNAC in France, you can check it on website www.fnac.fr

PQ :2.5/5
I've never seen the latest DVD edition and can t really compare if there is an improve or not. I gave it 3 because I've just watched CEO3K and think that CEO3K is better. it is still over average considering original master.
"not bad, but really not too good neither..." I think this is the minimum treatment for a blu-ray

AQ : 4/5
includes an english DTSHD-MA track,
but my actual setting can t do the job for now.
need to wait for the PS3 new update and to buy also the onkyo 805 I belove so much
I heard for now the DTS5.1 and it is already good enough! bass are terrific! but sometimes voices are not clear enough...

Last edited by Giyomu; 04-11-2008 at 07:00 AM. Reason: changed 4.5 to 2.5 for PQ as i've been disappointed while watching all movie

yes,
movie starts with "forced" subtitles but you can switch them off with your remote control when started

I was not able to launch any of the extras.
I don t know if there is a problem with the disc or because extras won t run on a zone A player...

^Although Chapterhouse Dune is a little open-ended, maybe that is best.
And one thing is certain, whatever you do, DON'T read the 2 "concluding" books by Frank's son Brian and K. Anderson.
Pure crap....in no way compares to FH.

well,
I finally watched all movie yesterday and I have to say that I've been disappointed by this blu-ray general quality...
of course movie itself is still a masterpiece of its genre but... looking to blade runner or CE3K and work that ve been done on those! I hoped something better...

I would recommend import for dune hard fans

Don't worry, I read their first book (prequel) because someone lent it to me. I regret it .. Thanks for confirming my fears about the concluding ones

Can anyone in R1 confirm this will play on a BD30?
And that the subtitles can be "turned off"??
