PCM over optical is confined to 2.0 by bandwidth unfortunately. Optical just can't handle the amount of info lossless requires. Regular dolby digital and DTS can be send across optical though. If you decide to upgrade your receiver you atleast don't need to be in a hurry as you can get surround sound.
