Yeah you do. Don't make assumptions either about someone asking a basic question.

A defensive statement to someone who admits he needs to pick the right faces?

Funny, I've read some complaints today (not so much here, but over on TORN) about the length of the EE. When the movie came out, all I heard were complaints about how overlong the movie was, and now people are complaining that the EE isn't 30 minutes or so longer! haha

The Bilbo-Elrond scene is pure magic imo, and improves the movie on its own. If we get more scenes like that, I'll be perfectly happy with this cut of the film. Just a bit bummed that we only get one commentary track! wth? Everything else looks up to par with the LotR DVDs, what happened here?

Looking forward to this release above all others. Yes, I am excited for new extended scenes in 3D and all that but mainly in for the appendices. No one does special features like Peter Jackson and Co.

Well, personally, I was expecting at least 40, 45 minutes of additional material. If it's just 13 minutes, why didn't they just include them in the original release a few months ago?

13 minutes sounds pretty lame, especially if you consider that 5 of those minutes will be additional end credits, if we take the EE versions of LOTR as reference.

This will officially be BD 3Ds first extended scene offering in its three years of existence and I hope the beginning of every other theatrical 3D Blu-ray offering an extended BD version.

It won't be. The EE running times never included the fan club credits, which went on for about 20 minutes.

@aoife:

But each LOTr movie was a whole book and so could add more to each movie to fill in missing scenes etc. They've already said they pretty much got all of the book (plus bits from unfinished tales etc.) into these movies and that theatrical cuts won't be as long as any of the LOTR theatrical cuts so it stands to reason that the EEs won't have as much in them. Using a ten year old set of films based on a trilogy of books as your reference for what a current trilogy of films based on one book and copious sidebars seems a bit of a stretch.
Be thankful they are keeping the appendices the same format, plenty of goodness to be had there.

Those added credits were for fan club names. There will be no such thing this time around. Besides, the added credits were never included in the announced runtime of the LotR EEs.

Still debating 2D or 3D. Don't own a 3D TV but may in the future. I own the theatrical cut in 3D just because Walmart was selling it for only a $2-3 more than the 2D version.

2 disks are not needed for movie. Return of the king theatrical was 17 mins longer than this extended version and fit on one DVD just fine.

When the EE of ROTK was first released it was on 2 discs, only one version of the EE is on one disc. Hell, the blurays of the EE give each movie two discs. I don't think "need" matters in this case. Give each one room to breathe.

Ok, but still... 13 minutes?

Of course I am going to watch this version, but I don't think 13 minutes will add much to the film. In the EE of the LOTR movies, they added from 35 to 50 minutes to each film and the changes are pretty drastic and add a deeper context to the overall story.

Here, I am pretty sure these 13 minutes could have been added to the original release. Sounds to me that they will be just a bunch of useless deleted scenes thrown into the film to justify the new release. I just can't see 13 minutes adding much depth to this film. Maybe I am wrong! In fact, I hope I am!

But oh, well... I'll have to wait and see for myself.

That Bilbo and Elrond scene already confirms they aren't useless deleted scenes. Plus we still don't know how many extensions to existing scenes there may be. I'm guessing not many but who knows the odd 10 seconds here and there could go a long way.
