It, along with the OG Xbox launched the same month in 2001, only a year after PS2. Not really late, but whatev. It was pushed hard enough, in terms of technical limits with great first party software--Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime come to mind. It was also the last Nintendo console with a decent third-party line-up: Resident Evil, Soul Caliber, Madden, CoD, SSX, Tony Hawk, Tom Clancy games, etc. |

The only true issues with the system in my eyes is the lack of software, consumer perception (Wii vs Wii U), and gaming media/fanboy backlash (everybody loves Nintendo games but hates having to buy a Nintendo console to play them). |

So whatever happened to the retail gamepad that was supposed to be for individual sale last March?
![]() Nintendo does have some flashy HD games in the works. Err actually 2 games. Mario Kart 8 & the New Newer SMB game. Both look like a lot of fun. That's the point. Fun won't save the Wii U this time. Triple A studios have no problem telling the public they have no plans to release their games on the Wii U, but in the same sentence will mention they will support Sony & MS however. I like the idea of VC but have you seen there prices on 8-bit games? Not to mention the fact the wireless range of the gamepad to console is no better than current gen controllers. So much for taking the gamepad into the next room. My favourite Wii U game is LCU at 19GB. Yes I downloaded it. With no external USB HardDrive pre-packaged with the system, Nintendo's cost cutter on Memory will hurt them in the long run. More so, hurt their digital sales. Why couldn't Nintendo hold an "actual" E3 press conference? We get one guy trying to convince us they are excited about the new titles coming out while our expressions are Huh?! Mainly because the same titles at Novembers Launch last year are still on the shelves today. Nintendo fans have been patient, I have but once PS4 & Xbox One are released, Nintendo will solely compete with their Mario franchise. Ill be keeping my 9 Wii U games + all digital VC Wii U games that have been released. Ill even be more patient & buy those Mario games this winter, but that's it folks. Nintendo has had ample time to secure exclusive third party games other than their own & I see any advantage they once had with a full year head start has been completely wasted come 3 months time. (Btw, Lego City Undercover is really fun especially if you're a movie fan ![]() |

Gameplay or graphics is not a choice. Demand both. Expect both. It's not like there are so few games that have both that you are required to pick up games with only one or the other. |

While I agree, I love a good game with great graphics and gameplay, I have really enjoyed some quality games on the Wii like Skyward Sword, Mario Galaxy, even though they did not have HD graphics, or even graphics on par with PS3. It would be nice to have both, and I wish those games had better graphics, however I do not think it took away from the games. And I do agree that there is no reason you can't have both. We have also yet to see what Nintendo can really do with the Wii U as far as graphical power. Maybe after they have released a new Zelda, not wind waker hd, it can be better determined.

Have you actually played a Wii U? I own one and the gameplay on the gamepad is terrible. It's very uncomfortable to play for more that a short time. The Wiii remote is even worse if you have to play a game with it turned sideways. The Wii U pro controller is nice, but isn't even functional with the early Nintendo Wii U games like New Super Mario U and NintendoLand. I'm sorry, but people just aren't buying into the gamepad gimmick the way they did the motion controller gimmick. At least the motion controller didn't inflate the cost of the Wii console the way the Gamepad is doing to the Wii U. Nintendo would have been better off making a traditional style console/controller free of gimmicks, putting all the money siphoned off in the Gamepad into more powerful console hardware IMO. |

And the Wii U doesn't even have good gameplay. Try playing a game for more than half an hour. The Gamepad is extremely unfomfortable. Not ergonomical in the least bit.

Actually they updated New Super Mario Bros U to work with the Pro controller. I have no problems using the gamepad though. I find it a lot better than I thought it would be. And while some launch games looked terrible, I think that was more developer issues. Need for Speed looked pretty good on there and I enjoyed it with the Gamepad.

Mario Galaxy both looked average(10 for Graphics IGN? REALLY?) and the Wii-mote was mostly pointless. I spent the entire time I played it thinking how much I'd prefer if I was using a regular controller. I don't know how they could have done the "point at the bar to collect starites" on a traditional controller but that was practically pointless too. To this day I can't decide whether the Wii or the 360 was the worst console purchase I've ever made, and I have owned some unpopular stuff. (Note: My 360 experience was really really bad regarding the RRoD. It kept taking MS 6 weeks to get it back to me, and the final kicker was it RRoDing a 3rd time right after my warranty expired) |

I liked using the gamepad for assassins creed. It was nice having all the HUD on there so you have nothing like that on the TV. And with arkham city having the map on there. Nothing that added much or made me feel I couldn't live without it but I still liked it.

Hey, when both happen it is great but the bottom line is I don't stop playing fun games because their graphics aren't cutting edge but I sure as hell will stop playing a game with cutting edge graphics that is boring as hell. Willing to bet you've done the same...

Also, I bought a Wii U on day one (but held it til Christmas for the family) and have the following games: Assassin's Creed III, Batman: Arkham City, Call of Duty Black Ops II, Injustice, Lego City Undercover, Monster Hunter 3, New Super Marios Bros U, Nintendoland, Skylanders Giants, Super Scribblenauts and Zombie U. Am I allowed to have an opinion now? I haven't regretted the purchase a bit. I also haven't had any issues with the various controllers. I find the gamepad adequate as a controller and "assymetrical" gameplay as they like to call it has great potential. I'll agree that Nintendo is short sighted in some areas but that doesn't equate to the Wii U lacking in quality in my eyes. Consoles that lack in quality are those that break due to design flaws. Also so I am not accused of being a fanboy, I own a PS2, PS3, and have a PS4 on order. |

I've used both controllers to play AC3. While I like the Pro, I missed the map on the Gamepad.
![]() I've played NFS Most Wanted on both Wii U & PS3. The edge in Graphics goes to the Wii U no doubt. The best game audio I've ever heard go through a surround sound system ever!!!! goes to AC3 on Wii U. I didn't do PQ comparisons. |

Forgot to mention that game I bolded out of your post, sorry. That game is night & day difference in graphics when doing PQ comparisons with the PS3 version. How do I know, I bought both. There is no doubt the Wii U is (of right now) the best home console for Graphics & Sound. Gameplay through either Gamepad or Pro is up for argument if you wanna do controller battles. lol The fun factor is an endless argument especially when there is little fun to be had with the lack of games. |

I am guessing when the cube fail to sell, someone in japan decided there was no point in taking sony on head to head, (at the time xbox wasnt much compared how many units sony sold) if the cube sold like the Wii, I say Nintendo would have gone all out on to have system on pare tech specs wise. 360/ps3/wii is my least favorite generation of consoles, it became very stale too many of the same games. it would have being interesting to see what good old Rare/ware would have done with the Wii, they really knew how to push the n64 hardware. |

As far as generations go I don't agree. I'm sorry but as much fun as NES games were as a kid that generation of mostly very short in playtime and story doesn't matchup with today's games. The Wii succeeded because they brought in a gimmick (motion controls) that was innovative at the time, reasonably priced and people bought into. The Wii U is floundering because they went with a gimmick (large controller with screen) that makes for a bloated price tag people are not buying into. And you cannot completely chalk it up to lack of games. The Wii sold amazingly well in it's early days despite really Twilight Princess being the only must have game on the market.
