As far as the second goes it is open to interpretation so I will give you mine and maybe that will be a sufficient answer. When the other Earth became visible, the mirror stopped. Each planet then became its own individual entity. Therefore, at that moment it is possible that the car crash never took place thereby deviating completely from the other Earth or the crash could have happened and stayed along the same path. Could go even further and say that the crash could still have happened but what took place afterwards could still have been different. How Earth 2 Rhoda comes to our Earth is sort of irrelevant. Since the story was really about what would you say to yourself if you were in the position to talk to another version of yourself. The shock of the ending wasn't necessarily her seeing her Earth 2 counterpart, it was more having to face herself. What does she say? Does the Earth 2 version have the life she wants? Will that version despise her because of what happened? Etc. Etc. To me, it was all about being able to look at yourself in the mirror and own up to, accept, and try to make things right if you have done something you are not proud of or something that has hurt someone else.
Does that make sense?
I Just want to say that that is a great interpretation. Reading it brought back the rush of emotions I felt watching it in theaters. I still have a problem getting behind the tragic event that puts the wheels in motion. It felt kind of contrived to me back then.

Just face it...you are a Brit Marling hater. In all seriousness though, what would you have preferred to happen instead of that tragic event? Is it just the event itself?

Just hate turn of events that require you to sympathize with the protagonist off the bat. It just felt like an "insert drama here" type of moment, not unlike the end of End of Watch.

Again, that's what sets the wheels in motion, so there isn't much I can suggest otherwise. Though, if we would have been given five or ten minutes with the victims before the crash, I would have liked that alot more. It would have messed with my sympathies alot more.

For the record, I think she is an outstanding actress, but I just dislike her films with Zal Batmanglig. This one had some of the same issues that those films suffer from, but they are not as numerous.

Not unlike the final scene in End of Watch? Nothing is like that horrendous scene.

I understand what you mean about having some extra time in the beginning but I disagree. I like that they jumped right into and showed a mistake that really anyone could make. Especially at a young age.

[Show spoiler]yea that makes sense. and i understand the movie wasnt about the details of Rhoda 1 vs Rhoda 2 and what exactly happens on earth 2. i was more or less theorizing and going deeper becuase the movie left me thinking quite a bit, which i love when movies can do that.

either way, great movie!

the other movie you recommended looks like a scary/thriller huh.... ill check it out
