Do you think there is any chance Breaking Bad may the M4K treatment? It is done by Sony and shot on 35mm.
Breaking Bad is one of the things Sony said was being remastered in 4K, so it's bound to happen sooner or later.

I thought it sounded familiar. Excellent to hear.

I still think they should have done this when they started releasing blu-ray's.. These movies are still in 1080p but have better video encodes so the PQ is improved. If they just released these better ones in the first place, I wouldn't have to buy all these blu-ray's again, and again when othe fficial 4K format has been released..

Cost and changing opinions on what is acceptable, plus they have 4k to sell now

Not to mention the entire mastering process (improved scanning, encoding, etc.) has improved over time.

Some screenshots comparing the Spider-Man 1 & 2 releases with the new "Mastered in 4k" releases would be appreciated. I have the original trilogy set (PQ scoring a 5/5 on this site) and want to see if the difference is really that noticeable.

I'm confused. Is Sony the only studio doing Mastered in 4K Blu-Rays? And are they truly in 4K, or in 1080p, because if it's in 4K then I don't want these because I don't have a 4K HDTV, and do not plan on getting one any time soon (far to expensive).

These are normal 1080p blu-rays.
There have been 4K-mastered blu-rays since the dawn of time, Sony's just doing some kind of marketing thing.

I have the trilogy & the two Spider-Man movies re-released in 4k & there is a night & day difference in the new transfer.

Same with the Godzilla. I have that one two.

The people you find bashing the ones in this thread don't own any of the new 4k remasters. They just keep regurgitating the same thing over & over & haven't seen any of them.

One of the biggest things besides the noticeable PQ is the way the higher bitrate handles grain. It make grain seem like a part of the movie & isn't distracting.

Smaller things in the picture are better resolved & clearer. Compression technology has improved greatly since the Trilogy was first released.

I haven't been disappointed with any of the 4k remasters. Trust me I wish other studios would go back & remaster a lot of titles.

As others have said, Sony really needs to pick their titles better. Movies like Spiderman and MIB already had excellent transfers and these 1080 4K treatments don't improve much for these titles. Ghostbusters and Glory(although not nearly as much as Ghostbusters) faired well with the new transfers.

I disagree. Spider-man Mi4K was a significant improvement over the original release (which was only mastered in 2K). Also, Godzilla, Pineapple Express, The Other Guys, The Karate Kid, and Moneyball were all visual upgrades over their previous release. Total Recall, Battle: Los Angeles, and Taxi Driver, all superior due to a higher bit rate, are again positive examples. As well, Spider-man 2 and Angels & Demons are often considered upgrades as well, though it depends on who you ask. These last two went through a bit of visual remastering that went over well with some people, but not others.

So I would say that overall that there are many more hits than misses with this new 'Mastered in 4K' line of blu-rays. Sure there can always be [objectively] "better" titles, but why not embrace these, anyway? Just about all of them are of superior video quality. And, in the end, more options are better for all of us.

Well thats your opinion, SM1 and 2 difference is marginal at best and dosnt come with the extended cuts.

I personally think that the largest upgrades of this M4K series have been Ghostbusters, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Men In Black, Godzilla and Glory.

Ghostbusters has the biggest improvement imo. That's only because it had the most flawed transfer out of the original editions.

Spider-Man 2's MI4K discs has framing issues. Plus, the contrast, while closer to the theatrical cut, isn't good.

Agree about the MI4K versions of Spider-Man and Godzilla being nice upgrades over the orignal versions (and so is Ghostbusters and Men in Black for that matter), but Karate Kid, Total Recall and Taxi Driver are complete wastes of time and Battle: Los Angeles actuelly looks WORSE than the orignal version, not many agree but the orignal release of Spider-Man 2 is better to me then the misframed whacky contrast MI4K version as well. So all in all its a mixed bag.

The framing doesn't look too bad imo and I can't really complain about the contrast if it's closer to how the film looked theatrically. At least the film isn't magenta tinted anymore.

By the way, has anyone else heard of any upcoming Mi4K releases? As of right now it looks like every title that's been announced is out.
Watched this today. Awesome PQ and a hysterical movie. Only $15 on Amazon. Now just need that price for Moneyball and The Amazing Spiderman.

I'm trying to remember without going thru the 100 pages of this thread.

Did you buy Spider-Man 1 & 2 4k & compare them with the original releases?

It's not a marginal difference. It's a noticeable difference as the review says.
