The BD is definitely superior, and the image has actually a lot of potential with very good contrast levels and fine grain; it's just a shame Studio Canal didn't bother descratching the film, as numerous speckles abound.

It's not Studio Canal, but Tamasa, which is a very small editor. I suppose they simply don't have any budget to do a cleanup of the print.
