It does. Let's hope us Americans get a crack at that slipcover.

Quickie usually means cheap, lots of unsold UHE discs out there

" keeping the original 2D image as the “left eye” means that the same, single disc can be played in both 3D and 2D players and the 2D player will give the same video as the original film.* This is a big pro for Fox, so this is the way they’ve gone" (bleedingcool interview)

“We create the right eye image from the left eye and the reason we do that is because, in a Blu-ray environment, that left eye becomes your 2D version and that’s the original 2D version that the consumer saw.” (Ian Harvey, TechGuide interview)

You are absolutely right that the 3D version is paramount. 2D is just "along for the ride"

Some of you need to read the Jumper 3D thread. Please note that Jumper is a one disk release.

At least if they did a new scan they wouldn't need to DNR it to do the conversion as I doubt grain matters with the cheap shitty way JVC does conversions.

Maybe, or if they do a new scan why not DNR at the same time as it will need restoration anyway

The fact that Ian Harvey isn't out being interviewed and touting the Predator 3D release means that there have been no improvements in the process or that it is too early to talk about it. He didn't discuss I, Robot until shortly before it was released in Oct. 2012.

When Fox/Paramount dealt with Titanic, it was authored specifically to not allow the user to playback the film in 2D. (Baring 3D Players/TV, that allow you to shut off the 3D function on the fly.)

Yes. Technically correct, but I'm referring to the Fox JVC partnership and business model for low cost catalog conversions for the home market. Expenses are reduced to a minimum for these releases, which is why I, Robot, and most recently Jumper have 3D and 2D accessible from one disk. Ian Harvey touted this as an advantage of the automated JVC process in interviews. The additional cost of a separate 2D disk is eliminated.

Why release this in 3D? The last release is horrible DNR to death! If it's a good remaster and keeps the grain I'm in for 2D. 3D has gotten out of control!

I like 3D. I would prefer to see effort go into Blu-Ray 3D re-releases of movies rather than theatrical re-releases. However, if new masters are made, I would only buy a Blu-Ray 3D Combo Pack if it included the new master in 2D as well (I'm looking at you, Jurassic Park). Will the conversions all be good, or necessary? No, but I'd rather reject them on "poor quality" grounds than in principle, even if I get why people would reject them in principle.

So was this limited to 500 con exclusives?? I mean the Head is popping up in other countries, so only 500 for the US? I got my order in from Foxconnect

Sorry if this question was asked before.

It's a good question. The whole "limited edition" concept is a bit muddy in my opinion. Perhaps someone who ordered it from Fox Connect has the answer?

Here is segment of the Fox press release dealing with it:

In a first-of-its-kind activation at Comic-Con, fans can enter booth #3528 and have their photo taken with state of the art cameras courtesy of 3D Systems. Their image will then be used to make them the victim as a customized figurine is created using 3D Systems 3D printing technology that features the Predator alien holding the fans’ severed head!

The figurine is only available to fans that purchase the PREDATOR Blu-ray 3D, available exclusively for pre-order at Comic-Con and packaged in a limited edition Predator head for $129.99. Fans can also receive the figurine with the purchase of a “headless” Blu-ray 3D for $49.99.

The display at the booth indicated there were only 500 Predator Heads available. Was that for the ones sold with the personalized figurines? How about the figurines sold without the heads? How limited are the editions currently being offered on Fox Connect and every major country in Europe?
