the truth is that yellowcake isn't even depriving himself of food. he still eats 4 times a day just not after 6pm. you're already stating that i am wrong and that he's wrong with his ways when you don't even really know what he does after 6pm. is he still physically active after 6pm? what time does he normally sleep? is his body in motion or is it at rest pretty much after 6pm? does he sleep really late at night? what sort of meal did he have for lunch and breakfast? these things matter in determining the effect of him skipping dinner, if any. i am pretty sure you know why i mentioned these things especially the part in which it's important to know if he's even burning calorie at night or all he does is watch television. and no, it's not enough of an answer to tell me that our bodies burn calories all the time anyway. if he's the type who sleeps real early at night and wakes up early for a healthy breakfast, that alone makes a big difference compared to him being awake late at night and not having any meals when his last meal is at 6pm. these are things that you failed to consider when you called my opinion wrong!
everything you're saying is what yellowcake does.. why do you keep saying "my" you didn't give an opinion. all you said was some nonsense about your doctor telling you stuff and "so many studies on why the best way to lose weight is to skip meals.. also I'm still waiting for these studies!

I just gave you some literature to read on why its NOT good to skip meals and you decided not to read them.. their is not much more I can do for you.. also I think its time to post a picture of yourself so we can see "how fit" you really are

Actually that is not the same . Do you have any type of degree in a scientific field? If you do, then you would know that there is a difference between calling something wrong and calling something a fact. Actually no credible scientist calls something a fact . You will never read in a scholarly journal the word fact. I'm sorry but this whole post of yours makes no sense.

Bringing this thread back on the subject of weight loss, since getting the new stationary bike I am now down 7.5lbs. I tend to go about 30 minutes almost every day on this thing, 21-24 mph, comes out to about 13 miles a day, need to up it to 20. I will be so happy if I can get myself down to 180lbs before I start lifting.

Sorry to start all this. After doing some research, the advice given by nolfoc is the healthier way to lose and maintain weight. Internet forums are notorious for raising ire. I think if you are truly trying to help and spread the best information, don't start off by giving a single sentence trashing of someones opinion. nolfoc's last few posts are what I would have liked to hear from the start. I was about 20 pounds over a healthy weight and had floundered with losing all of it, so i tried this skipping a full meal plan. It did work for me and I was never hungry, but I do not recommend it as a long term solution. I did it for 4 months and got to my desired weight but now I am going to follow some of this less drastic and healthier advice. I do think that dinner should be less calories, if you are less active in the evening, than your other meals during the day when most people are more active. I don't eat fast food or much red meat. I still have moderate amounts of carbs and fruits and vegetables, and I'm drinking mostly water ( at least 2 litres a day). Walking 3-5 miles a day (4 or 5 days a week) is still my main form of exercise. My plan now is to try to maintain my present weight by spacing smaller meals throughout the day and add back a smaller early evening meal.

Best thing you can do

Yogurt and fruit for breakfast + water 32oz... or make a smoothie
Have an apple for a snack between breakfast and lunch
Have a salad and soup for lunch + water 32oz
Have more fruit for a snack
Eat a healthy dinner no less then 4 hours before bed - this is the kicker if you finish eating and go right to bed it does not give your body time to digest and burn off the calories

Cut out the following foods

Unhealthy Sugars (Candy and such)
No Ice Cream - Very Fattening
No Soda or Beer these are about 150 calories per drink
No Chips

Keep up your exercise that's the most important as you body continues to burn calories even after you stop.

As others have said dont ever not eat meals that's the worst you can do.

Thank you, it looks like a good plan. I agree that the unhealthy sugars should be avoided, but total deprivation is what leads to bingeing. If you want ice cream, eat a little but account for it and only indulge very sparingly while trying to lose weight. Others may disagree, just my opinion. Yeah, I haven't had beer in over 4 months but 1 or 2 a week could be accounted for without too much damage. Beer was my main culprit, I was drinking this Double Bock last winter that I later found out was about 290 calories per 12 oz! It built up some good winter bear fat though.

I have just realized it has been 2 1/2 weeks since I worked out (lifted or did crossfit). I need to get back. I had an injury to my shoulder and that made it painful to move it.

I did just get a bike, so I am hoping to ride the 3 miles to my gym when I go, just to add another level of cardio into the mix.

lack of unhealthy sugars is not what leads to binge eating. If you are hungry, your body is telling you that is has not had enough calories and you need to eat. Chose healthy calories such as fruit for the natural sugars. Empty calories like candy and chips and other fatty foods is NOT what you should binge.

No one is saying that you should cut everything out. I still have a bowl of ice cream (measured out, of course. ), but I don't eat the whole container. There are some foods that I have cut out completely. I do not eat potato chips. I sometimes eat tortilla chips with my homemade guac, but usually get the new 'Baked Tostitos Scoops.' An alternative that I use with my guac is a sliced jicama (aka mexican potato/yam).

since this is the topic for today

I read this the other day, threw out my Fish Oils pills right away.. just getting my Omega's from Fish no need for the pills as a add on anymore

Quote:
Taking health supplements with omega-3 fatty acids can increase the chances of contracting prostate cancer, according to new research.

Omega-3 fatty acids, found naturally in oily fish and lauded for their anti-inflammatory properties, were found to increase the risk of high-grade disease by 71 percent.

Taking omega-3 was also associated with a 44 percent greater chance of developing low-grade prostate cancer.

Overall, the fatty acids raised the risk of all prostate cancers by 43%.

A US team of scientists compared blood samples from 834 men diagnosed with prostate cancer and 1,393 participants without the disease.

High blood concentrations of all three omega-3 fatty acids commonly found in supplements EPA, DPA and DHA were linked to the findings.

Senior report author Dr Alan Kristal told Sky News: "We looked at the marker in blood for the intake of these fatty acids and we found to our surprise that it was associated with increased risk of prostate cancer.

"If you took an omega-3 fatty acid pill, or a fish oil pill every day, you are at the highest risk group."

I posted in "The whats on your mind thread" a couple of weeks ago as that was on the news here.
I have recently just started taking cod liver oil so but it seems as always what is good for you one day all of a sudden isn't so good for you on another.

It'll be something else soon....I am still taking them, will I repurchase when this lot is done?I'm not sure yet but my guess is my diet in general is more of a health concern than any supplement.

Someone should start a thread, "How many vitamins/supplements do you take in a day?"

Do you guys reward yourself with one meal a week of whatever?

Had KFC tonight (1176 calories) and it was good.

I try not to, if I want KFC style chicken I can make something similar myself. That's a lot of Calories to burn off, basically 1 day at a fast food rest. will destroy a weeks worth of working out.

Just passed 71 lbs of weight loss since the end of January! I've went from 288 lbs to 217 lbs! Down from a XXL shirt to a Large and from a 42 waist to a 34! Just bought 2 new pairs of jeans that were size 34's and 3 new size large shirts this week!

For those of you that are curious, I've done it the old fashioned way, through a healthier diet and (lots) of exercise.

I started working out on the elliptical machine 3 days a week for 30 mins each time. Then I worked my way up to 45 minutes every other day increasing the resistance. I am now up to 70 mins 4 times a week on the elliptical. I also just yesterday, ran my first 5K (no stopping!). I haven't missed a workout since I started exercising on Feb. 11, 2013.

This picture is significant because I am able to fit back in my leather Motorcycle Jacket that I wore all through college!

You guys wouldn't believe the junk food I put away,I have seen me eating nothing but takeaway for a month solid.
I should be the size of a house but have only put on a stone(old money I know)in a couple of years.
I am 14 stone and 6' tall,I must have great metabolism but as I get older I really want to start eating better.
