40 gig ps3 cleans itself! - Blu-ray Forum

There's a hidden trick that sony put in the 40 gig ps3 that cleans the inside of the ps3 here's how to do it.
1.put the ps3 on standby(red light is on)
2.turn off main power switch in the back of the ps3
3.place finger on the eject button and hold
4.turn on the ps3 from the back while holding the eject button this will cause your fans to kick in on full blast blowing all the dust inside your ps3 out it'll sound like a loud blowdryer the fans will stay on for about 1 min then shut off by themselves when this happens turn off the swith in the back of the ps3 and wait 5 sec and then turn it back on and your good to go. This trick only works on the 40 gig ps3 and mo it's not a joke and it will not hurt your ps3.

I don't have a 40GB PS3, but if I did... I wouldn't take your word for it without something to back it up. A link to something official regarding this feature would have been nice.

So, for those who read this thread that have a 40GB PS3, proceed at your own risk if following the instructions of a complete stranger.

LoL Although I doubt it will cause any harm to try it out, there isn't a need for a source when you could just take the 2 min. to test it yourselves.

Wow, before we know it, the console will get an update so it could do the laundry. That would be the best thing in the world (yes, even better than sex, although I probably shouldn't go too far with that).

It works!

I tried it, although the fans run about 20 seconds.

Wonder how "clean" it actually is now.

I tried it - it does seem to run a bit quieter now, but who knows... my car runs better when I wash it too.

There's got to be another reason for this, otherwise you would think Sony would mention it.

I tryed it on 40gb US PS3 it worked. No luck with my 60gb UK PS3

I fail to see how it could be dangerous if its built into the PS3. It seems to me that its probably a test sony does when you send your PS3 in to get fixed. Hence why it isnt in the manuals.

But.. this is just pure conjecture on my part.
