I've gotten bored with SteelBook collecting. Like the comics I used to collect in the 90's, SteelBooks have just gotten too mainstream for me, and it seems, anything and everything is (or will be) released in a SteelBook.
Now, I know I would need to post in a trading form or something if I wanted to try and sell my collection, so please don't start PM'ing me and stuff, or making offers in this thread. My question is, has anyone ever tried selling their collection as a "collection"? I'm not interested in selling my collection piecemeal, and sending individual SteelBooks all over the world. I'm not dying to rid myself of my collection, nor do I need the money. How would I go about selling my collection as a collection? Note: aside from one purchase, I have never used eBay, and don't even know where to begin. Just looking for a little feedback and information, thanx! ![]() |

![]() I'm glad I don't collect packaging but collect movies (with packaging a bonus) thus I own things I enjoy. I even don't mind that people like things I like |

Three steelbooks I bought recently were from a seller on eBay who spent so much (over 200 steelbooks in less than 2 months) and has since started selling his collection piece by piece. That would be where to start. List it as a full collection with either a Buy It Now and Best Offer price or set a low starting bid with a reserve amount.

You'll probably get more bites on ebay but then you'd have to worry about shipping and if the buyer is happy with what they receive. Plus the fees are crazy now, I got charged but paypal and ebay recently.
I'd actually list on craigslist, that way you avoid fees and make sure both parties are satisfied with the transaction. Of course, you might run into some weirdos but oh well |

Hey do you live in Richmond BC south of Vancouver? I live there.
![]() Yeah, I've stopped collecting steelbooks now, but I'll still be getting future releases and maybe mint versions to replace my older ones. Probably keep it to about 10 a year, then again I never got heavy into collecting these things to begin with. |

![]() P.S. I'd even be willing to pick them up in person to save on the hassle of shipping costs and the like. ![]() P.P.S. It would also help to know if any are still sealed. ![]() |

I think he is trying to avoid people cherry picking his collection and trying to sell it off as a lot.
It's hard to do because despite what you may see, SteelBook collecting is still a very niche hobby. True, on a worldwide level, it is more popular, but if you are only collecting in your native country, there isn't as much of a selection. I would think that you would gain more interest selling it on the Trading forum because you are getting people all over the world who are interested in SBs and not just the casual collector who will only one 2-3 pieces. |

I always see (at least) two problems with selling a collection (with more than 10 steels):
1. Very limited number of buyers: assuming you have 150 steels and want $20 per steel, that's $3000 right there. Not many people here can drop this kind of cash on a short notice. And you probably want more than $20 per steel on average. 2. Shipping: how do you securely ship tens, maybe 100s of steels? |

I was thinking that as well.
![]() It's all up to Thwip of course whether he wants to liquidate his collection. But if he doesn't want to mail them out one by one he at least knows that two members on the site, who live in close proximity are willing to help take care of a huge percentage of the lot. Just an option to think about. It's a small world sometimes. ![]() Last edited by GreenGaijin; 08-30-2013 at 07:01 AM. |

![]() Maybe we can all get together, have a few beers, watch the Lions or Canucks (if it takes that long to arrange it) and hash out the details. ![]() Last edited by Petra_Kalbrain; 08-30-2013 at 07:23 AM. |
