That is true, and it is also sad. This type of thing is EXACTLY what I expected when blu-ray was being touted as the next great thing and they were saying how many extras would be included and that it was a "film fanatic's dream." The only set that remotely lived up to that claim were the ones for the Alien series. This documentary SHOULD have been bought by WB and SHOULD have been included with the boxset. I can't believe we're now paying extra for extras.

I think you may not understand what this is, LOL. It's not a bunch of little EPK "bonus" fluff material.

Regardless, if you'd rather steal than support the incredible amount of work that went into this release, that's your decision.

This isn't some big studio you can justify deserves it - this is an independent production that people put their own blood, sweat, tears, and money into out of love of the franchise.

Star Trek Into Darkness - heck, even I am tempted to download the commentary and other crap. When the studios plead poverty I laugh, but in this case - I'd feel really terrible if I did that.

I would think so or else the producers are on to a proper winner using all them people to make them money.

It's sad, but on the other hand - I much prefer the independently produced ones like this because they go far deeper, and aren't afraid to show the warts and all. Aliens was an exception (like how they allowed the unedited A3 doc on there) because in most cases, it's all white washed anyway.

But...the truth of the matter about why extras have largely disappeared, is simply because...please don't shoot me LOL...because I *DO* care...is that the majority of customers don't. Care, that is. Sure, enthusiasts who come to sites like this don't. But most people simply don't watch them, or even really look to see what's there.

I know, it's blaspheme...but it's that so few people watch them, and extras cost money. That's why we largely only see throw-away stuff on Blu-ray. I mean, look at a release like this. Just tracking down all these relatively unknown actors and crew itself was likely a full-time job for years. I have been working on a similar project (about a classic kids show) and let me tell you - while the Internet is your friend, just FINDING all these people is a task in and of itself. And in this case, where they are actually then filming them - getting in the same place at the same time - it's crazy. I'm lucky mine is a book, LOL - so I don't have to do that.

So to be honest, I don't mind this way - we get far more in-depth material, tons of brand new (almost all brand new) content, and we get an independent eye looking at it.

LOL.

Yeah, these guys are going to just rake in the bucks after spending years throwing money into a pit with all the cost of producing this, and then releasing it independently - they stand to make millions. ;-)

Seriously, though - if the estimates out there are accurate, they have to sell at least 10,000-20,000 of these just to break even.

I don't know if they did get paid (SAG is iffy on interviews, it's all so complicated - and that's just the actors) but if they did...well I'd actually be surprised since the amount of people involved would be a huge amount of money.

This project isn't about making money really - it's a labor of love. If anyone didn't participate because of money issues, they are really only hurting themselves - it's their chance to have their say, and for most of these people - while they may have very fulfilling personal lives and perhaps professional lives outside the industry (particularly the actors) - for most of them, this is what they are most known for, and it's their legacy that is at stake, not being included in what will be the definitive filmed documentary about the series.

Really? I'm thrilled we're getting this as a separate release and not thrown into a box set, especially since I'm not likely to get that one.

What, do you work for them?

The book appeared fine when both my girlfriend and I first handled it. It wasn't until after about 3 hours of reading that the pages started falling out. Do you honestly think my girlfriend would have bought an expensive book like that and kept it if the book appeared to be falling apart when she received it? It looked fine, until I started actually handling and reading the book. Get it? Upon initial inspection, it appeared fine.

My point was that the book was clearly not glued properly, and fell apart upon my first reading of it, and the company had no interest in replacing the book. That's what I consider very poor customer service. It was just a book - they could have replaced it to make a customer happy.

I once bought a board game for my girlfriend as a gift - when she opened it (remember - board games are packaged sealed) we saw the board had the plastic coating mis-applied, and the entire board was all bunched-up and looked like crap. I contacted the company that made it, as the store didn't have any more, and the company apologized and sent us a brand new game, sealed, and never even asked for a copy of the receipt or the original board first - they just got my address and sent out the replacement game. That's called excellent customer service - something more and more companies don't practice, and more and more people no longer even expect apparently.

And more or less placing the blame on Amazon for not taking back an item after the 30 day grace period. A shame, of course, but not Amazon's fault.
We all receive stinkers in the mail. It's bound to happen. That's why most retailers of note will have a return policy.

I was putting some of the blame on Amazon, but more of it on the manufacturer of the book, who easily could have replaced it to make a customer happy. I even stated I recently contacted the company a second time, hoping they would perhaps be interested in resolving the issue, and I even sent them copies of the old email back when they first denied me help, and instead of an apology and offering to correct the issue, they stood by their decision, and wouldn't replace the book.

So I was putting most of the blame on the manufacturer, although Amazon could have also made it right since they shouldn't be selling broken books. Amazon obviously didn't know, since it looked fine to us first when we first got it, but 2 different companies were given the chance to help me out - the manufacturer and the seller, and neither one wanted to help.

What do you mean I don't understand? What's there to understand? I've seen full-length features on youtube. I was talking about the bonus disc of additional interviews. You don't think eventually some or all of those interviews won't end up on youtube?

Thanks for the insult, though. And since you haven't been following the discussion obviously, I pre-ordered this already from the CLM site. I originally pre-orded the signed copy, but since cancelled it and pre-ordered for the bones disc from CLM, but without the signatures. So no, I'm not "stealing it". I've mentioned more than once in here that I have it on pre-order.

Nope not an Amazon employee, just a customer with common sense.
You example, by far, is the exception, not the rule. This is further compounded on your part, as you kept the item for 30 days before opening it.
So again, I have no idea what point you're trying to make? That people sometimes receive faulty items, whether from large companies or small? Okay. I guess we can file that next to:
Water is wet
Sky is blue

Again, according to your original post, you held the item for 30 days. Past Amazon's 'return window'. If you learn anything from this experience, I would hope you learn to thoroughly examine your items upon arrival.

Believe it or not, but the youtube clips and segments may very well help to sell additional copies of the release. Had I not seen the "Never Sleep Again" documentary first, I never would have purchased it or this. I've seen more then my fair share of boring uninspired documentary's on various movies, but the amount of work that the folks behind these releases put it in is inspiring. Had I not viewed it with my own eyes first though, I never would have known that, and never would have cared.

I agree. Kind of my take on the dreaded Rental Copy I receive from Netflix. I sure wish the studios would do away with them. I can't speak for everyone, but rarely do I purchase a movie because the rental didn't come with extras. If anything it has the opposite affect on me, as it turns me off to wanting to purchase. So for every 1 BD I actually buy, because I want to see the extras, there are about 20 I pass on. The studio's loss as far as I'm concerned.

What's to explain? Dark Delicacies purchased X# of copies from the Crystlalakemmories.com website/distributor. They are going to hold these copies until the signing takes place the week following the official release of the documentary. During this public signing, DD will have the stars in attendance sign the Blu Ray's cover. The signed Blu ray's will then be boxed up and mailed out to the people that paid for them.

More or less... you're ordering from a different retailer who charge whatever they feel is fair. I didn't order from DD, and chose to go direct from CLM, so i don't know what the price difference was.

The price difference was about $12, but technically the only difference was shipping was so high through DarkDel and very low through CLM.

Please be aware, in case you aren't, that it is no longer possible to order a signed copy.
