The episode was fine for what it was. I'm enjoying it the 2nd time through.

I think (and hope) the final 4 episodes will just be insane though. I'm fully expecting at least 1 main cast member to die each remaining episode - this includes Lydia and Todd since they were added to the cast.

Everyone involved said the final 8 were an insane ride. I think they needed a real big shock for the first episode and then a bit of a set up episodes...but these final 4 have to be insane.

I love that we got to see

I really do hope the final 4 are insane just like you hope as well, but I doubt that a main character will die each episode. I don't think that's possible. They may not even kill as many as we think realistically. It may turn out to be like 2 or 3 major deaths. I'm cool with whatever they do and trust the Vince Gilligan squad. I'm just along for this wonderful ride!

I normally agree. I don't think a death necessarily makes for a good episode, but I think this specific show and story are much different. I think people really need to start dying. Things are going to go down.

we have...

Walt
Skyler
Walt Jr.
Hank
Marie
Saul
Lydia
Todd

Not to mention some secondary characters like Gomie, Huell, etc.

I think it could really go either way... I wouldn't be shocked if most died, I wouldn't be shocked if no one died.

I thought that was the best episode of the season so far. There was just an obscene amount of amazing character stuff which is what I like most about the show.

Here is a bit from Entertainment Weekly's review of the episode tonight:

It had to happen. Among the 58 episodes of Breaking Bad that have aired so far, there had to be a clunker. Sure, there have been a few "filler" hours in the series' run, but none that felt completely out of place like tonight's "Rabid Dog."

lol. An alternate opinion is the excellent Donna Bowman, who has been writing about the show day and date from the beginning:

Everything that happened in tonight's episode feels like it could have been handled in 10 minutes of every other episode.

It was also the first episode of this show that was completely predictable.

Wow, Jesse and Hank. I kind of saw that coming in a way. I expected Jess to go to Hank (not the other way around).

I bet what will happen next episode
[Show spoiler] is that Jesse would go rogue and take Skyler hostage...things go sour...yadda yadda yadda..she dies. Walt Jr. and the baby get put into protective care while Walt (and Todd's uncle) fight it out with Jesse and whoever decides to go along with him. During the fight out, Hank and his team show up, something cause Jesse to protect Walt...he gets killed. Walt shoots Hank (disabling him again), Walt goes rogue.

Maybe somewhere Marie can die...god her character is irritatingly annoying.

A swerve for the sake of a swerve isn't good TV (see: Dexter and many others).

Personally, I had no idea how the end was going to play out and I didn't find it to be a cop out all. There was a smorgasbord of acting on display (I don't think the entire cast has been collectively this good before) and we finally got our 'hero' to take control of his part in all of this and likely the rest of the season. Considering this is the mid-point of the end it was a perfect fulcrum.

Not a great episode but a necessary one I guess. Expectations are just so high considering there is so little show left. Seemed like an episode from a penultimate season and not one of the final hours.
I expect Lydia to die next episode.

Great episode! If this was any other show than breaking bad people would be shitting their pants over this episode. If they had done all that in 10 minutes, people would have been pissed and said they are rushing.

I'm so glad Hank finally told someone else in the DEA about Walt.

Hank's a great guy... really hope he doesn't die.

Thought it was interesting to see Skyler encouraging the killing of Jesse this episode, she's really becoming as bad as Walt is at this point, she just doesn't get her hands dirty, similar to Lydia come to think of it.

I'm wondering when we'll be getting the time jump to the 52 year old Walt we've seen. I figure something big is going to have to happen either next week or the week after to give us the '6 Months Later' transition so the remaining two episodes can be used to show us what Walt's up to with his M60 and the Ricin.

Surprised to see a negative response to this episode. A clunker?...hardly.

While I think this episode was better than several others here seem to, I definitely agree with that. Some important things went down, but they didn't have to be stretched out over an entire episodes.

That said, even a slightly below average episode of Breaking Bad is much better than just about anything else on TV right now.

Is it just me or the episode 4 was kind of boring?

I love this show but I'm sick if the depressed Jesse...

Approaching the endgame now... I feel my feelings that Jesse will instigate a blindingly clever chemistry-based plan to "get" Walt might be on the money. I also think that this plan will somehow provide Walt with some kind of redemption. One more thing: don't jump to conclusions - that phonecall to Todd at the end there does not necessarily mean that the job Walt wants Todd's uncle to carry out involves killing Jesse.

I'm curious how ratings will be for this episode. HBO and Showtime did not air any programming last night. No Dexter (not really competition anyways) and True Blood ended last week (it's biggest competition)
