Using HDMI or optical?
When you press select on your PS3 controller, what does it tell you the PS3 is processing? DTS-HD MA 5.1/7.1? What's the PS3 say exactly? What does the display on your 605 say you are listening to? Bottom line: If the PS3 isn't processing DTS-HD MA 5.1 or 7.1, or your 605 isn't receiving 5.1 or 7.1 PCM (I believe the Onkyo should say Multi. Channel PCM on it) then you aren't getting true DTS-HD MA. Rereading, apparently hitting select on your PS3 controller says you are getting DTS-MA processed. What's the receiver say you are getting? And please clarify you are using an HDMI cable for sound, and not an optical... The reason I'm asking again is because the ONLY time I've seen my PS3 automatically choose 2.0 PCM as an option for me was when I was using optical as my connection in system settings. HDMI audio output: On PS3 a:HDMI set to LPCM b:Audio settings set to Auto and picking up 2 of 2ch. LPCM. c:Put in a movie with DTS MS pick I was still able to change the surround sound on my Onkyo to were it was mix. SO is that sill DTS MA? I am using HDMI 1.3 DTS MA shows up when I press <Select>. Last edited by Mikesamuel08; 04-16-2008 at 08:39 PM. |

Heavens to mergatroid...
If you're sending out a 2 channel PCM signal, then no, you are NOT getting true DTS-MA. Getting a 2 channel signal and letting the 605 "mix" it out to the other speakers is NOT giving you a true DTS-MA signal. Gonna go out on a limb here and say you're NOT getting DTS-MA. The ONLY way you're getting the right sound is if the PS3 is sending out 5.1 or 7.1 PCM; NOT 2 channel. |

Hi, its very easy.
1. Make sure you ve connected AVR and bluray player via HDMI cord. 2. Set your bluray player to output 'Bitstream' instead of 'PCM' in Audio Options. When receiver 'feel' bitstream data it will automaticaly recognize data type and switch to proper decoding mode, f.e. 'DTS HD MSTR' for DTS-HD Master Audio or 'DOLBY TrueHD' for Dolby True HD signal. If you can't do that with your player you will still see 'MULTI CH AUDIO IN' or whatever on AVR main screen. |
