Default PS3 Broke?!?!?!

I was watching a bluray disc a few minutes ago and it froze. I took it out and put it back in and the main ps3 menu wont even acknowlege there is a disk in the player. So I put in COD4 and the same thing, nothing. So I put in a dvd and it reads just fine. What the heck, I still have the warranty, but what else can I do? I bought it at Best Buy, it's a 60 gb and as far as I know they do not have those there anymore. I do not want a 40gb, I need all the usb ports and memory card slots! HELP ME!!!!

Turn It off, then turn off the switch in the back. Unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds. This should reset PS3 and hopefully everything will work again. If not Call Sony!

Call sony and see what they can do. DO THAT FIRST. Then call up best buy explain the situation and see if its possible they can either send it in, or find an 80gb for you.

I have a similar problem with my 80GB. I called Sony support and read them the error messages. Symptoms were not detecting any blu-ray disc including games, detecting blu-ray disc and reporting an error on auto-start, coming out of Folding@home and not detecting blu-ray disc. My gut told me there it was something related to the next to last firmware update because until then my player worked flawlessly.

Sony sent me a box and I've sent mine in for repair/replacement. AND no I won't take a 40GB in replacement but I would take a 60GB if they have some laying around.

I spent nothing on the been broke since I found it psp. It's the ps3 that wouldnt read any of the blurays or games. Some guy on another board said to turn it off completely and unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds and it will reset itself. What would you know it worked! But will this be a persistent issue. ANy one here of this?

you can try to remove the HDD and put it back, you gotta have the good screwdriver and be cautoius as the screws are tightly fixed.

Heh. I just sent my 40gb back to sony and had the similar problems such as unable to load ps3 and blu-ray disc but dvd works fine. Something with the blue laser not working right.

I wouldn't try this, as sony asks if you've openeded the system which can and does void warranty, just call sony and wait for the box so they can replace it....

Actually, I wouldn't do it either, but this doesn't void the warrent by removing your HDD.

Quote from sony's site:

The PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system hard disk drive (HDD) is removable and upgradeable. An upgrade can be performed by removing the hard drive and replacing it with a larger capacity drive. Please refer to the PLAYSTATION 3 system owner's manual on how to properly upgrade the hard disk drive. The HDD must be a 2.5” SATA HDD.

Sony Computer Entertainment America, Inc. (SCEA) does not have any information regarding specific compatibility or recommendations for hard disk drives for the PLAYSTATION 3 system. Upgrading the HDD will not void the warranty, however, the consumer takes full responsibility when upgrading the HDD. If you wish to back up your data, you may use the back up utility on the PLAYSTATION 3.
