![]() ![]() Sony’s announced a new Vita iteration, the PS Vita 2000, which will be 20% thinner and 15% lighter than the existing model. In addition, this new Vita replaces the original’s OLED screen with a LCD one and thus Sony say the battery should last one extra hour. Additionally the unit will now come with a built 1GB memory card for saves and charges off a Micro USB port. Sony have also revealed that memory cards for the PS Vita will be dropping in price by about 40% on the 10th of September in Japan. They will also introduce a 64GB memory card on that same day. The new Vita 2000 is set to launch in about a month on October 10 and will cost 18980 yen or about 190 USD. There doesn’t appear to be a 3G model. The new model comes bundled with a 90 day subscription to Playstation Plus. |

Almost sold me on it until I saw that. Definitely need to see some reviews to see what the new screen is like.

Is there any reason to believe the Japanese cards won't work on US Vitas? I'm going to import one of those bad boys. |

They will have to eventually. It makes no sense to produce two different ones without any significant difference. It would only confuse consumers too. Considering this new one is likely cheaper to make and has all the functionality if the current PSV, it stands to reason that that one will be discontinued and phased out as the stock diminishes

I think the screen tech is a significant difference, but don't know if the average person does. However, if this is being marketed as a cheaper version, then maybe not. Similar to the Nintendo 2DS, they aren't going to stop making the 3DS. I am just speculating, and this is just my opinion. I guess until we know a little more about the LCD being used on the newer version, it's all speculation. This might not even come to the US until 2014 anyway.

Going by past trends the PSP-1000 was discontinued after the PSP-2000 was launched, then the PSP-2000 was discontinued when the PSP-3000 came out.
The PSP Go was sold as a seperate system, and even the PSP Go was discontinued after the PSP-E1000 was released (except NA). So it doesn't look good for OG Vita, I'd try and get the PCH-1000 series for a good price before even thinking about getting the PCH-2000 series. |

The only improvement this has that I care for is the 1gb memory which is pretty much inadequate for gaming but great for saves. Not enough of an incentive though as PS Plus would suffice for all my storing needs.
How does switching to LCD improve battery life? I thought OLED consumed less power. I dont care about it being light and thinner as the current one already is and IMO is a bit too light. I prefer my handheld devices to have a bit of weight to them. Thats one reason I prefer the iPhone 4S to the 5 |

Sony do love to tinker and release a new model of everything, think ill wait on PS4 till the PS4 slim next year
![]() I bought my vita last October and i have to say i seem to be playing it more now than my ps3. The 64gb memory card is a god send, also the 1gb internal memory is better for those who only want to stick to cart games. The weight loss is a bit pointless as the current vita is plenty light enough, however the increase in battery life, however slight, can only be a good thing as the machine does tend to run out of juice very quickly. Overall i think the changes are very light - but anything that increases sales for this fantastic console is good news in my book. |

I'm interested to see how much thinner it is.
I did like the features of it being thinner & lighter, having some memory (1gb), and longer battery life and being able to charge with a micro usb. But when I read that the trade off for an hour of battery life is an LCD screen...I think I'll stick with my current vita |

I'm not thrilled about them going with an LCD on the 2000 model.
I'm glad that I got mine the week it launched. Also, isn't an OLED more power efficient than an LCD? Doesn't it use less power overall? I thought that was one of its advantages over an LCD. Sure, its more expensive than an LCD, but then wouldn't it also yield a longer battery life over the LCD? |
