It'll take up less space at retailers than those chunky boxes that you see on endcaps at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc.

But, yeah, beyond that... there doesn't seem to be any value here. And I find it hard to believe that anyone who would be interested in those films hasn't already captured them on any of the hundreds of PD collections that have been released in the past decade or so.

These public-domain Blu collections always remind me of this:

It's not really much of a value to get a dozen or more movies in a collection if they're going to be of such shite quality (and not even in real HD).

If this was like 5.99 or something I wouldn't even complain, but the fact that they're trying to charge $25 for this is just ridiculous. As soon as the format was announced I figured we'd get a ton of stuff like this on it, but thankfully that hasn't been the case.

Why not take even a handful and actually scan them and release them as is....splotches, film lines etc and all like Kino/Redemption does. At least they would be buyable or worth even selling in that case.

It's a stretch even to pay $25 for top quality transfers of some of these films. I've previously owned them all on 50-movie DVD sets and such. I'd be interested to hear about the picture quality of this package, but my hopes are not high.

...to mislead less savvy consumers into thinking they're getting something more than they really are.

The DVD versions will look better than this mish mash of PD films. MGMs I Bury the Living and Image Devil Girl From Mars are the best transfers Ive seen on them. For some people who will get this, good for them..but ID rather hold on to the DVDs with the best PQ not some 3rd string company using PD transfers..It might as well be Alpha Video doing blu ray

If this were a compilation of officially-licensed DVD transfers struck from the best available sources and in OAR, it'd still be kind of silly to package them all onto a single Blu-Ray, but at $24.99, that set might be a decent value. This set, with it's inevitable series of full-frame transfers sourced from tattered, multi-generation, 16MM/VHS dubs, is a $5.00 - $10.00 DVD set, at best, masquerading as a $25.00 Blu-Ray.

I'm reading this, scratching my head and wonder "What the hell are Blu-ray Disc Association doing?". Are they seriously not acquainted with these scam artists and their piss poor products? Isn't there a way to legally prosecute these "companies" in order to prevent further damage to Blu-ray format? Poor BD. As if it weren't neglected by majors already.

We're not talking about same dated, old HD masters. These SD films crammed into one disc are not up to snuff even for DVD standards.

The blu-ray reputation stumbles with each of these releases.

If Warner Archive did bluray collections like this of their short subject collections like the Vitaphone shorts or Joe McDoaks, I'd jump on it. Same goes for Republic serials like Flash Gordon.

What illegal acts are being done? The Blu-ray Disc specifications do not require that the content be in high definition. Yes, the marketing of this product is counting on people not being aware that "Blu-ray" does not inherently mean "high definition". But while that is potentially very misleading, it's also totally legal. They even put "480i" right there on the front cover! (Albeit in a font whose style and color help to keep it from being noticed.)

Caveat emptor.

Not sure I'd spring at that price, but I wouldn't mind a few discs like this for titles like that.

I'd also be in favor of something like Mystery Science Theater 3000 being done like this. The eps are never going to be better than standard def, but they could probably fit several episodes on one disc. That would save a lot of space over the box sets.

Warner Bros has been shoveling SD content onto blu rays for a while. They just call it a "bonus". I guess by that definition, this disk is all one big BONUS!
