[Show spoiler]Update: 12/6

Here's the confirmation of a US blu-ray release by Fox's rep:

__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ____________________

I've been holding myself back from posting this piece of information, but I can't hold it in any longer!

First, it was bluray-disc.de who broke the news that Fox/MGM are planning to release the new editions of Rocky and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly with "much improved quality", and now the German branch of Fox themselves has confirmed that remastered editions are indeed in the works for next year (proof below).

In case you were wondering what German edition has to do with North America section, mind you, the German Fox and blu-ray-disc.de were among the first who reported on remastered edition of Fox/MGM's The Terminator last year Besides, there's not a snowball's chance in hell that Fox would spend big bucks on remaster of the classic of this magnitude and then put the blu out in Germany/Europe only

(Despite the fact that, i'm firmly convinced it's happening, I've decided to put a question mark at the end of the thread title.)

I personally think that the existing Blu-ray of Rocky looks great. It's a drab-looking transfer, because it always was a drab-looking film. There are certain key scenes where the high definition treatment really shines, though, such as the scene where Rocky is running up the museum steps with the streetlights in the background.

If Fox can make improvements to the transfer that remain true to the intended look of the film, though, then I'm all for it!

Oh, it's good then that I didn't get the amazon deal!
I had a hunch that maybe that's why it was so cheap!

Yeah, but you still need the other movies to have the collection. I would have bought it and then the re-mastered disc and swapped it out (which is what I might do). I'm pretty sure the release they are referring to will only be Rocky and not the entire series.

Hell with the Italian Stallion, the current BD is okay aside from a few compression niggles - but there's a remastered TGTBATU on the way????

It's merely okay AT BEST:

http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergl...ergleich=rocky

An MPEG-2 codec with an 18 mbps bit rate aren't exactly deserving of this movie's magnitude. Besides, it needs to be re-released for the extras alone. I want to listen to the audio commentary while experiencing the movie in HD. One or two more brand new extras wouldn't hurt either.

As for TGTBATU, it can only mean that they've worked out a deal with the Italians and gotten hold of their master:

I don't know if it will have the deleted scene.

Hopefully they'll include the documentary "The Rocky Saga: Going The Distance" from Bio.

I wonder if all the Rocky movies will get remastered and a new box set released or is it just going to be the first movie?

This kind of explains Amazon's deal on the boxset yesterday which did make me wonder if any remastered editions were in the works.

Thanks for the heads up, I have been waiting to add the Rocky films to my collection for years! Hoping for a remastered boxset and not just the one film very soon.

I'm guessing it will just be Rocky for now, kind of like The Terminator and it's sequels. maybe they will get to the others later, but I don't see it happening anytime soon (but I could be wrong ).

I knew there was a reason I never upgraded my Rocky Collector's Edition DVD for any of the myriad BD re-releases, all of which were mediocre IMO. I don't want to get into a heated "intended look of the film" discussion so I'll just say that the film deserves far better treatment than it got. As for the sequels, Part 5 is the only one I like but don't have a need for an upgrade UNLESS MGM decides to go all-out with it, which is unlikely. TGTBATU is also a welcome surprise. The Italians put out a very good Blu not too long ago so nobody can say that good elements don't exist. Very welcome news.
