Andrew, what email address did you use? I tried one asking about the Weta stature version but never got a response.

Here ya go Buddy

WBCustomerServices@technicolor.com

I'm gonna query as to why do a US version and not a UK. Probably reply with some b/s about what the consumer wants.

Thank you

On the bright side, whilst I agree that consumers should have a choice, at least the UK version is only £15 which is what most would have been happy to pay for a 2D version anyway.

Why import as the UK 3D extended is miles cheaper than the 2D version from the US ? plus you can sell on the 3D disks if you don't want them.

You can pre-order the UK 3D extended for £15.00 from Amazon.co.uk
However the US 2D extended is $28.99 plus shipping and customs charges if caught from Amazon.com

Surely the UK release is the way to go.

I see your point however I'd then be stuck with a 3D symbol on the spine in my collection and it's the principal. They did the same with Wrath of the Titans. I might just wait and buy the theatrical edition and then buy the trilogy when There and back Again is released.

And what are the chances that the trilogy gets a seperate 2D and 3D release, won't you just be in the same situation as you are now when the trilogy is a 2D/3D combo?

Well that up to me to decide. Its likely they will release both sets come 2015. They would want to capitalise on both sets of consumers. Why they don't do that now is beyond me (I;ve emailed them). If they don't I will import from the US whether it costs me more or not.

It'll probably turn out the commentary is only available on the 3D version

This release will be worth the wait. Good thing I held off from the TE. Then the month after, it's The Desolation of Smaug in cinemas

I'm with you Chip on this. Though I did go and see the movie a second time when it became available at the higher rate frame locally, and found it a superb visual treat, everything super sharp focus, totally engrossing. BUT Jackson was once again given full reign and like King Kong and Return of the King the film was far too long. In King Kong people were screaming "when are we getting to the damn island and the ape?", in Return "not another ending", in The Hobbit it was "too many dwarves, too many dwarves, when is the damn journey going to start?"
It is such a shame Jackson hasn't an internal editor in his brain, or somebody standing nearby that he trusts to tell him when enough is enough.
I wonder if the standard version will be the sharp focus of the 48 frame 3D version. If it is I may buy it, just for those visual treats, and the only really memorable scene, the meeting with Gollum, and the game in the cave!

This question is for the people that already have the standard version, will you be keeping the standard version and also buying this extended version ? or selling it to put money towards extended edition ? i mean are the extras on the copy we have now worth keeping you think, why they did not also put thouse extras on the extended edition i do not know, to make us buy both versions i am sure.

I'll keep the Theatrical as well but it's only likely I'll watch it much. Same with LOTR. I have the theatricals but never watch them.

I'm tempted by the Steelbook, but how are they going to fit all those discs in? I've never seen a Steelbook with a tray before...

It's going to be a jumbo steelbook to be able to fit those discs. I don't really like jumbo steels so I'm passing on it and getting the digipack standard release instead.

They rarely take the extras from the theatrical release on to the extended one. I'll keep the first although I think the video diaries are available on Facebook or Youtube in HD.

I may not watch the theatrical cut again it will depend on how I feel about the extended cut.

I've preordered the EEdition,
Had been waiting for this, though I did find the TE too long and nor do I believe 3 films are necessary with The Hobbit, I'd prefer this version. I enjoyed most of it, though subconsciously, it was just a nostalgic trip down LOTR memory lane. If I'm getting a version, it's the full thing. Pity all those extras are not together. I'm sure those TE extras will be YouTube.
Not overly happy that the only release is the 3D version.
Love steel books, but not keen on the Steelie of this.

Going to keep the theatrical edition and hold off on the extended version.

Whether I buy a boxset in the future depends on the other two films and whether there's a 2D only release.
