b.t.w., although the press release ( http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2_0/index.aspx ) and img’s YouTube lesson doesn’t specify/reveal it, for a little feature insight to the 3D audio enthusiasts reading out there, HDMI 2.0 supports 3D audio 30.2, 22.2 and 10.2 channels from 192 kHz to 32 kHz.

22 2 Multichannel Sound System - YouTube

Only 22.2 Multichannel Sound System? That's it? Not impressed , where is the 32 channel multi-dimensional immersive audio tutorial?

Well img, I just can’t help you out with that, for if you closely watch the 22.2 video I posted above from the NHK spokesman, there is no analogous YouTube video

for 30.2.

HDMI 2.0 Specs indicate DAL (Dynamic Audio Lipsync) is activated through Consumer Electronics Control.

Well, for one thing, it means I can read and decipher the unpublished details of the HDMI 2.0 spec.

As far as the published specs go - http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2_0/index.aspx , I think the sentence at the bottom of the Overview, namely “HDMI 2.0 does not define new cables or new connectors. Current High Speed cables (Category 2 cables) are capable of carrying the increased bandwidth” is a bit optimistic because the jury is still out as to whether long runs can in fact successfully transmit 18 Gbps.

While many of the new HDMI 2.0 features do not require the purchase of new cables, those trying to deliver content with greater bandwidth demands, like 4K or 3D, will likely need to purchase new HDMI 2.0 cables.

What is the cable length range of interest here?

Saw a quote somewhere from the folks at MonoPrice saying they would have a new line of HDMI Category 2 cables available before the end of the year. IMO, it will be similar to their current RedMere cables but made with larger wire. It would be interesting to know if their current 30 ft. model could handle 4K/60fps.

I set ‘em up (post #52) and you knock ‘em down . The HDMI/vision science ‘guru’ at cnet ( http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7...vs-are-stupid/ ) must be totally displeased with both of us now…and I haven’t even finished my spiel on Vernier acuity…https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...er#post8070327

Or why people with ‘20/20 vision’ don’t all have the same visual acuity, i.e. “All but two participants in each group had visual acuity of 20/20 (MAR = 1 arc min) or better in both eyes (see Fig. 2)” - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3293147/

Uncertain, testing is needed.

I think many current brands can handle 4K/60fps, the question is can they successfully transmit 18 Gbps. That’s a different matter.

HDMI 2.0 released

Quote:
As far as I can tell, all three channels can be used for audiovisual data, for a combined total of 18Gbps — but this only helps if you want to display three separate images. I don’t think you can combine all three channels to create a single 18Gbps, ultra-high-resolution feed. 6Gbps is enough to carry 4K video at 60 fps, or 3D 4K at 30 fps, along with 32 audio channels, and that seems to be the limit of the HDMI 2.0 spec. The DDC and CEC channels don’t require anywhere near 6Gbps (more like Kbps and Mbps), so most of the remaining 12Gbps will go to waste — unless you use HDMI 2.0′s new “dual video streams” function, which presumably uses two TMDS channels to display two video feeds on a single display.
It appears that a quality CAT2 HDMI cable should work just fine.

Wendell, I hope you’re not one of those who make a big deal out of the difference between ‘4K’ and ‘UHD’, for if so - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ps#post8090709 (5.94 Gbps x 3 channels = 17.82 Gbps).

Anyway, I’m confused, so you’re saying that Park and Heiss (sounds like a law firm) should retract their statement…From there, I dropped in on the HDMI 2.0 class, with Jeff Park of HDMI, LLC, and Michael Heiss, who informed attendees about the recently announced standard bearer. “Along with allowing for an increase to 18 gigabits per second of bandwidth, it can accommodate 4K video content at 50/60Hz and allows up to 32 audio channels, along with multi-stream audio and dual viewing on single screen.

While many of the new HDMI 2.0 features do not require the purchase of new cables, those trying to deliver content with greater bandwidth demands, like 4K or 3D, will likely need to purchase new HDMI 2.0 cables.”

Or that the roving reporter ^ (actually, CEDIA’s technical journalist) did bad reporting ? on the HDMI 2.0 class?

Ah, should have done my own math. 3840 x 2160 x 24bits x 60 frames = 11.944 Gbps. That would be for one video only channel. Or it could be I need some sleep to think more clear. Had hoped that after HDTV I would not have to think about this stuff. Oh well, never a dull moment around here. Now just got to come up with the scratch for that Sony VPL-VW500ES Projector
