DOCTOR SLEEP is the sequel to Stephen King's novel THE SHINING, not Kubrick's film of it. There are massive and fundamental differences between the two (including characters and buildings that survive one but not the other) so, a viewing of the movie aside, it's critical that you read Stephen King's THE SHINING novel before undertaking DOCTOR SLEEP.
