With all of this love for "Gravity," it would make sense for Criterion to announce "Y tu Mama Tambien" next week. That and "Thief" would be really cool, IMO. Another Hitch title and I'd feel that I hit the jackpot!

As for very unpopular opinions: I like Brian DePalma's Rear Window rip-off, Body Double more than Rear Window.

I'm right there with you on everything else, though!

Oh, Mann. That would be awesome! BW, you know whats up.

By the way, the UK Y tu Mama BluRay is actually pretty decent PQ wise. I think I bought mine for about $10 back in April.

Don't taze me, but Y Tu Mama Tambien is one that I will probably skip over if and when it comes to Criterion.

I enjoyed the first viewing, but that film was a one-trick pony for me.

I don't hate Empire of the Sun, and I don't think that it's Spielberg's worst film, but it's definitely not on the same level as Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Duel, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, War of the Worlds, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Schindler's List, or the myriad of other Spielberg flicks that I'm forgetting to mention.

I was set to pull the trigger on that a while back, but when I found out that Criterion was a possibility, I decided to wait it out.

Don't taze me Owl, but it's actually in my all time top 10!

It's about on the same level of War of the Worlds - which is to say, it's pretty much crap.

It's all good.

If we all liked the same cake, then life would be pretty boring.

Actually, everyone does like the same cake in Ministry of Fear, so...uh...well...nevermind.

ha! well, your endorsement for "Seconds" worked out ok for me, so this one is now on my mental list of films to see!

Okay...today's discussion about "highly regarded movies that we dislike" compels me to ask a fun question to everyone in the thread.

This may sting a little, but...

If you had to give up one Criterion movie in your Blu-ray collection, what would you give up?

I'll get the ball rolling. It would break my heart to do so, but I'd part ways with Medium Cool if I had to give up one Criterion Blu-ray out of my collection. I mean, I love that movie, but I love it slightly less than the other Criterion Blu-rays that I own.

It's tempting to give up A Safe Place, but I'd feel strange not having the entire America Lost and Found set.

I'm a fanboy of Spielberg's War of the Worlds. I read the H.G. Wells novel countless times during my childhood, and the Spielberg movie captured the spirit of that novel adeptly. The images of the tripods coming over the hills of the countryside by the river was exactly how I envisioned the story during my childhood. I think that it's an underrated Spielberg film, and that it's a sci-fi classic.

That said, I do prefer the 1953 version. I love that Spielberg cast Gene Barry and Ann Robinson as grandparents in his movie to acknowledge the superiority of that earlier film.

I would give up Hausu. Sure it's a dreamy and batsh%t crazy horror film but it definitely isn't one of my favorite films in the Criterion Collection. The cover is amazing though.....

That would probably be mine too. I've started it a couple times and it hasn't grabbed me enough to even finish it.

Who knows though...third or fourth time might be the charm and once I get past the bottleneck I might change my mind.

I'm also tempted to say The Game but even though I didn't care for it when it came out and didn't care for it a lot more when I watched the BD it's the kind of thing I can see myself regularly revisiting in a 'The Godfather Part III - give it another chance, it can't be that bad...it just can't be' sort of way.

Oh I love The Game. It definitely isn't in the same league for me as Fight Club, Se7en and Zodiac but it's an exciting and moody thriller.

Either Seconds, or the first movie in the Samurai Trilogy.

I might quibble with exciting (and thriller, for that matter) but all misgivings aside I would definitely agree with moody.

Even if I thought I could never sit through the film again I would hang onto the BD for the Jefferson Airplane alone.

From my very limited collection I'd give up Broadcast News. I found it to be mildly entertaining and very well acted but I have no real desire to watch it again.

Probably Shallow Grave for me...or Darjeeling Limited.
