Reading the comic, it seemed better... I guess because I read fast, so it didn't seem like such a long stretch of just Superman. ![]() Quote:
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give this one a try. I haven't read the comic, so the story will be a surprise ![]() |

I really like all of these... though to be fair I haven't gotten around to watching the Wonder Woman one or the Green Lantern Emerald Knights one yet.
I've bought and watched everything else, though. IF I had to rank them, there are certainly some I enjoyed more than others. Oh, and I haven't watched Dark Knight Returns yet. I was going to watch it but waited once I learned the deluxe version was coming out and now that I have that (got the Target steelbook version) I can watch it in one shot. I would like to see them branch out a bit to other characters... but it is hard to deny that Superman and Batman are bigger sellers thus far. I also have to admit that I have liked the Batman ones better overall, probably... though my favorite might be one of the shorts... that Spectre short-film they did was pretty cool. |

I love that short. My favorite one though, is the extended Jonah Hex one. It's almost perfect.

I'll also recommend Batman: Under the Red Hood, Batman: Year One, and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, JLU: Crisis on Two Earths, and JLU: Doom for a good Batman fix.
On the voices, I definitely feel Conroy and Hamill are the definitive Batman and Joker. Bruce Greenwood is a good, harder, and mature Batman as well. Peter Weller has a good voice, but I didn't think it always worked in The Dark Knight Returns. I prefer Michael Ironside's version from that one episode of TAS. Ben McKenzie was awful in Year One. I thought William Baldwin was okay in Crisis on Two Earths. As for the Joker, I thought John DiMaggio and Michael Emerson were just okay. The dude voicing him in the new Arkham Origins game seems to be doing a Hamill impersonation though. Which is kinda alright with me. At least he sounds okay. ![]() Superman is tough too. Tim Daly is the definitive animated voice for me. George Newbern is fine though. I thought Mark Harmon did alright, but sounded too old in Crisis on Two Earths. I didn't really like James Denton in All-Star Superman - too dull. Mark Valley is pretty good in The Dark Knight Returns though. While I'm on the topic of this animated universe, does anyone else think the original movies feel too sterile? Something about the too clean animation, sound design, and vocal performances just feel off. There's hardly any atmosphere and they never truly come alive. I've noticed they try to cover this up in the recent Batman ones with wall-to-wall Zimmer-inspired music. Last edited by Rizor; 10-12-2013 at 05:17 AM. |

Didn't care for New Frontier. But a warning about it...Bats is in about 5 minutes of it. It felt rushed and suffered from it's short run time.
Year one also suffers from a to short run time also. That adaption was probably the biggest letdown. Under the Red Hood was the most surprising. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2 |

I have to agree with those saying Conroy has had his day but it's time for someone new. We can only say "He's the definitive Batman voice for a generation!" so long before the realization sets in that he hasn't done THAT much to set the character afire. No one can touch his original BTAS voice, but ever since the revamped cartoon he's replaced it with this cartoonish, over-the-top surly one-note Batman/Bruce Wayne voice that I'm really, really getting tired of hearing. It was at it's worst in Justice League, as they gave him all those stupid sarcastic jokes as if to point out how absurd the increasingly fantastical situations the character was in were. And his constant delivery of "Diana!!!" just sucked. I played Arkham City again and he really has lost any range he once had- he sounds the same in every situation (rushed speech, overly grouchy Batman), even when he's supposed to be dying of poisoning. It's time for someone new who does, dare I say it, a more naturalistic take on the voice- not like he's constantly aware he's a cartoon character, which I feel has been Conroy's default "method"/ autopilot he's been on for the last 15 years.
