I remember being the only one who liked Miami Vice when I saw it on the big screen on the first day of release years ago. I've since come to appreciate the Unrated cut even more than the Theatrical cut, but both are visual treats.

Yes! I love the fact that people are finding it more rewarding upon reevaluation. Actually, that author too was mixed on it upon initial release. I believe it was J.R. Jones who nudged him in the right direction.

I can see how that statement may appear to be self-serving, but in all fairness he is writing seriously about film. Just open up your Monsieur Verdoux booklet for proof. Second, maybe he just knows quite a few of such fans. There's no doubt he could have expressed the latter in a better way, but I see what he's trying to say. It strikes me more as "we fans" not "I, the fan".

We definitely need Marx brothers on Blu-ray but I'd like to see some of their earlier Paramount films. Out of those, Duck Soup would seem to be the obvious choice as a Criterion title.

Thinking about it, I'm just imagining what kind of cover art they would do with a title like that.
