Shogun is not only my favorite mini-series, but also my fathers. He also liked Winds of War and War and Remembrance. He has the VHS of Shogun and I bought him the dvds of Winds of War. I could not find War and Remembrance, but that was before I shopped online at Amazon.

Great News !

Very exciting news - was just talking to a friend about Shogun yesterday. Probably not a Day 1 (unless I can pre-order at 45% off or more), but still... I anticipate a great release!

What a delightful and unexpected surprise. Hopefully the extensive special features are carried over. Here's hoping we get the digibook treatment! Now let's pray it does well so it can get other studios to release more miniseries. Just imagine Roots, North & South, Centennial or The Thorn Birds to mention a few in HD.

Here's hoping "Roots" is coming in its original eight-part ABC version. Listening, WB?

Looking forward to owning this!

I would also like to own these eventually on BD:

"Holocaust"
"Roots" and "Roots: The Next Generation"
"Taken"
"The Thorn Birds"
the upcoming "To Appomattox (aka "Grant v Lee") http://www.toappomattox.com/
"V" (1983) and "V: The Final Battle" (1984)
"The Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance"

and not a miniseries but an excellent TV drama

"The Day After" (1983) (127 minute version with intended theatrical ratio of 1.78:1)

The UK companion film about a nuclear bomb detonation: 'Threads' is IMO better, and worth checking out.

I watched this religiously. I couldn't wait to get to school the next day to talk with my friends about the previous night's episode!

My dad, who was stationed in Japan when he was in the air force, would point out little nuances I think most audiences wouldn't pick up on ("You see how he keeps his eyes on him when he bows? That's considered insulting, as it's a sign of mistrust.").

The 80's definitely had some nice mini-series. Centennial is one of my favorites, although technically that was what 78 or 79? Looking forward to seeing what this looks like. It was kind of big deal when I lived in Japan. Something that I found funny was my Japanese girl friend told me that most Japanese hated the lead actress for whatever reason? I guess no matter where you live there is celebrity gossip lol.

Hmm... If it's out in Germany already on the 6th of Feb, it might even hit Scandinavia or the UK quite soon. Fingers crossed.

EDIT: Found it!! Sweden release already on the 29th of January: http://www.discshop.se/filmer/bluray...lu_ray/P120422

Pre-ordered!

This is great news!

I was starting to think that my DVD set was the best that I was going to have for Shogun. I will be picking this up in 2014 for sure.

The region free German version of Shogun was released a few months ago. I have it and watched it along with all the extras. I'll bet the U.S. release is identical.

Shogun has never looked better.
