Clear confirmation: US release will be a 2-disc set. Disc 1 will be the new transfer, viewable in 3D and 2D, like other 20th Century Fox 3D releases. Disc 2 will be the UHE.

That just seems a bit weird to me. If they're already pressing a new disc, why not just port the extras over from the UHE? I mean why have 2 different transfers of the same movie (one of which is awful) in the same set?

Once you accept the fact that this release is nothing more than a cost effective way to increase the 3D content, primarily for digital market and secondarily for physical disk market, everything falls into place. 2D/3D same disk. Extras provided in the most economical way by including the UHE.

As far as the transfer is concerned, as I said many pages ago, it is an "all new 3D transfer". Well of course it is since it is the first time it will be released in 3D. To think that they put any more money into this with a new scan is just ridiculous. At best, there may be some marginal improvement, but that's all.

There was never any intent to answer any perceived complaints about the UHE, which were rejected by the studio as unfair. The UHE has been a spectacular sales success since its release in 2010, which validates the studio's position.

UHE is currently #77 in Blu-ray Science Fiction on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers...v/2959137011#4

Well, sounds like I might save some money then. I'll keep my initial Blu-ray copy and 2-disc DVD set thank you.

Purists and videophiles are not the target market for this release, so your position is no surprise. Purists detest 3D catalog conversions.

I can picture it. It would be amazing if this received the same treatment as Jaws. Stunning picture quality and possibly a 7.1 or at least an amazing 5.1 audio track. I want this thing to dominate my living room.

There is no proof that this is not a new 4K transfer, which Finn has confirmed to at least a couple of people. Only raygendreau is convinced this will be the UHE, converted to 3D.

Yes

The only thing that could be improved is the dialog. I remember It had some noticeable hiss.

Don't own the movie on blu-ray yet. Hoping this one is the definitive version. I wish it would be confirmed that this is a new scan for the 2D version. I don't want nor need the 3D version.

Fox germany says that the 2D disc is the regular Hunter Edition and the 3D disc is in 2D playable.
Its a shame, I for a new 2D disc.

If the 3D disc is playable in 2D and looks as good as Aliens does on BD then that will do me nicely.

Yeah, something doesn't sound right.

But, maybe the new 2D version is actually pretty grainy and the UHE is for those who hate the grain. That coupled with the 3D satisfies what anyone could want with this movie.

If what is reported is true, would the 3D Blu-Ray which is also viewable in 2D on the same disc, work in 2D on actual 2D-only equipment as well? Or is the 2D version only for those who have 3D equipment who can switch back and forth between the 3D and 2D versions?

Well that's good news, because I have a 2D-only Blu-Ray player and a 2D-only HDTV. I do hope that its a new scan too.

The 3d movies I have with 2d modes on the same disc won't play in non-3d players.

Creature From The Black Lagoon does. If they can do it with that then they can do it with this, and by the sounds of it thats what appears to be the case with this edition.

Not all do, the majority are locked and come with a separate 2D disc but there are a few out there (ie Dredd/Underworld Awakening)
