Ender's Game (2013) Never in 3D

After my post on the Lone Ranger 3D Blu-ray yesterday, I just read on AICN that there is a special screening of Ender's Game in IMAX 3D coming soon, when even the director Gavin Hood insists the movie is in 2D... did the studio have its way?!

Why didn't they do a 3D conversion of this movie? The different sci-fi action scenes in the trailer would be just perfect for being in 3D!

There is no 3D version of this film.

Yup, the film is in IMAX but not IMAX 3D.

I wonder if they regret not offering 3D after seeing the success of another space movie Gravity 3D. Another thing is, this is the same kid that starred in the filmed 3D Scorsese Movie Hugo 3D.
Ender's Game should have been offered in strong 3D.

I don't think that's happening. I'll see it in 2D as I do with most 2D only movies. But 3D would have been welcome if they had the budget and ambition to do it, as it's a lot of extra work if filmed that way, and converted too.

Agreed, unfortunately he already got paid so any boycott of the theatrical showings won't affect him in the short term.

Looks like you're right - they've amended that story and it now says IMAX only. Mystery solved...

Yes, I understand the notion perfectly. In theory. However it's not Asa Butterfield who makes Hugo the 3D milestone that it is. He does a great job to be sure, but what makes Hugo Hugo is Scorsese.

One might as well argue that, having starred in Avatar, Sam Worthington would guarantee any subsequent 3D movie starring him to be just as brilliant 3D-wise. Need I mention Clash of the Titans?

I object in general principal to Sam Worthington being called a "star" responsible for anything to do with any movie's success. He was lucky enough to be a prop in some high profile movies that made a lot of money where any suitably handsome, physically fit actor could have been inserted interchangeably. No one is paying to see a movie because Sam is in it, witness: Man on a Ledge.
